Hi everyone. Well my girl started panting and became restless yesterday.
Temp fluctuating between 37,2-38.0 C.
At 01.00 temp was at it lowest on 37,1 C and an hour later you could see that she had mild contractions. No discharge and not to push though.
Then at 06.00 she eat her breakfast and fell a sleep. Temp 37,9.
We have been out for a walk and when we came back home she started panting again. She is now sleeping. Temp. is 37,9 C.
It seems she is going to have a long first stage of whelping and I am a bit conserned.
Anyone with advise on what to do to make some progress in the birth-process? and how long can I wait if no progress??

This is the time when you need to be patient, this can go on for 24hrs + as the pups all move into line and head for the exit, she seems happy to rest when she can which is conserving her energy for the hard work later.
If she becomes distressed, is pushing for a long time with no result or has a green discharge before any pups then is the time to worry and contact the vet.
Taking her out to wee/poo frequently will free up space for the pups passing through the pelvis.
Good Luck
Thank you for advice!! you are right regarding to be patient as my girl is fine and no signs of problems.
She is a giant breed but is only expecting 3 puppies. I really hope things are progressing so we do not end up with c-section
No puppies yet but started to loose mucusplug yesterday and had mild contractions the whole evening.
Whitish discharge on and off.
Temp. has been low ( 37,1-37,2 giant breed) since 4 a clock this morning and she diggs when she is outside.
Right now she is panting and a bit restless.
Hopefully there will be puppies tonight.

Good Luck. Hope your girl has an easy whelping - and soon! :-)

Here's to an easy healthy whelping

how are things as we haven't heard from you for a while?
Sorry Iam a little tired but here is the whole long update of what happened.
It ended with an emergency c-section tuesday 10 April
Hera did not progress in her labour. Temp. continued fluctuate. She did come so far that she had mucus.discharg but after that, nothing.
My gut feeling told me that she should have been further along and in active labour/pushing out puppies ,by now.
I also noticed that the discharge had changed color. Just a tad but anyway, it worried me also and I called my vet.
When she got out of the car at the animal-clinic ,the discharge was dark green. Showed it for vet. and asked for a c-section and he agreed.
The reseault? well xray showed 3 puppies but one was hiding in the ribcage so 2 girls and 2 boys!! the first girls placenta was loose( and she was high up and not in the birthcanal) ,thats why the green discharge but we where really lucky this time.
Unfortenually , the smallest boy had to put to sleep yesterday and I was really upset. The little one aspirated milk in is lungs so started with antibiotics.
Then later in the evening I noticed that he could not poop, despite of his mothers and my efforts to make him.
the little one got stomach-eaks and cried .
Called my vet again who ment it will probably pass during the night, wait and see .
Already now, Both me and my husband had a feeling that something is wrong and that it most likely will end with one puppy less.
The little boy eat lesser and lesser and cried on and off the whole night. In the morning I drove to the clinic and it turned out the puppy was missing apart of his bowels and was put to sleep.
We have cried our eyes out the last couple of days, but now, as we look in the whelpingbox on our girl and the remaining hopefully, healthy puppies, it feels better again. Besides we knew it was going to be a small litter and prayed for a girl for keeping and we got 2 !!
R.I.P little Bonus, you are in our hearts forever.

Oh bless RIP sweetheart, thank goodness you were on the ball and acted swiftly. Fingers crossed all goes well from now on.
Thank you claire_41. Right now everything is well. Hera is a good mother and the puppies already wheigs around 860 grams.

So sorry that one didn't make it, RIP little one.
I did wonder that all wasn't going well when you didn't comment again.
Hopefully the remaining 3 go on and thrive with no more problems and you get your pick bitch.
Thank you Rhodach. We are not going to have puppies again the next couple of years which gives good time to overcome all of this that have happened.
Thanks for the update, sounds like you have been having a horrific time. Hope you can now get some rest and enjoy your babies. You did all the right things and followed your gut instinct which is all anyone can do.
RIP Little one.
