Topic Dog Boards / General / ID tags

Hi everyone,

As its a legal requirement I always make sure my dog has an ID tag on but he always ends up loosing them while playing or running in and out of the woods.

I can't seem to get a ring that is small enough to fit through the tag hole but big and strong enough do deal with the abuse it goes through.

Anyone know of anywhere I can get a strong ring or maybe something else that'll do the job?

I've used a tag that slides onto the collar so can't come off unless the collar comes off. After years of losing the little round tags, I puckered up and bought one each for the two dogs I had then. Never lost them. I will get o e for the new dog when we get her in the summer. I think they are called Indigo dog tags. Google will know I'm sure.

I also have slide on type tags, wouldn't go back to the ring type.

Try: http://www.indigocollartags.com/
or

Anyone competing in agility uses these type of tags if they want to run their dogs with a collar on as the ring type are not allowed.

I bought a pyro graphy  tool and burn the dogs name and my tel no on my collars...Lasts as long as the collar and definitely cannot come off.

I use collars that have contact details embroidered on to them as used to have to double tag my dogs as they were always losing a tag in the undergrowth. I can't remember which company I bought them from as they were made at an agility show but if you google them there are several companies that make them.

I'm with Pedlee, I'd never use ring tags again ... too easy to clip lead into the wrong ring, and then expensive tag gone :-(

My gang all have Indigo Collar Tags too. You wont regret it, they are really top notch stainless steel with really deep engraving and the added bonus is they don't make a horribly annoying jangling noise against a bowl when eating or drinking ;-)

Yes, I'm another vote for Indigo, been using them for years and think they're great.

Trouble is the width if you want to avoid marking the neck fur.

Mine are shown and wear collars 24/7 (braid or round leather half checks), and I actually want the jingling so I can hear where they are, so they wear two tags, the Brass heavy etched one and a microchip one.

Interesting thread :) I don't currently have a problem as have two older dogs and haven't lost a tag for a while :) However, when I get another dog the Indigo tags look good. I prefer a push/click fastening on collars (mine don't wear collars at home so easy to take on/off) and the slide on type of tag wouldn't fit them :)

Daisy, I use collars on mine with the plastic push/click fastenings (the collars are flat nylon, like Rogz etc) and the Indigo tags work well on them.  They lay flat on the collar and do not damage the hair, in fact there is very little in contact with the hair.  The only thing is, if you buy extra/spare collars to remember to stay to the same width, eg 5/8", 3/4" or 1" or whatever the width of your tag is.  :-)

LOL - good point :)

I use "IDENTI TAG" their plastic tags are very hard wearing, my working spaniels wear them 24/7 unless actually "working".
Such busy little dogs, other tags especially metal ones wear out or break after about 6 months.
The dogs wear 2 each, one with home details and the other with our vet contact details.
The tags we have at the moment are 2 years old, the print  is still as good as the day they were bought and there is no sign of wear where the ring goes through. They are NOT expensive

Indigo tags work well on fabric collars, mine are all on Spiffy Dog (soft) collars and previously on tape, slightly stiffer collars, also worked well :-)
