This child in the US was killed by dogs but it seems her family are being charged with child neglect for allowing it to happen and not keeping an eye on her.

Wasn't that also the case recently in France, when a dog killed a child? The dog's owner was prosecuted as he was drunk at the time. The dog wasn't PTS but taken and rehomed.

I wonder why the UK has such a different take on incidents like this ?.
Remember a year or so ago the child who wandered into a neighbours garden and was attacked by their dog, there seemed to be little to no remonstration for the adults who should have been looking after the child, indeed, they themselves launched an all  too familiar campaign against dogs.
It seems that here, everyone is to blame apart from the child's guardian.

I think it is just to do with the way the laws were framed - the DDA applied to behaviour outsdie of private property as did the existing dog laws.

I have been puzzled by much of the reporting on this case, if the girls went back into the house alone how on earth does anyone know what happened, only the tragic end result?  Does no one else think that the possible trigger was not the meat pie but a "stranger" entering the home when the family were all out?
