Just wondering really...I didn't know there was such a colour in Pekingese, but when having a little look on some puppy selling sites, I have seen several adverts for white Pekingese...they look quite nice and they are a colour accepted by the Kennel Club, are they a new colour or have they always been around? Can they be shown?

Wasn't Tricky Woo in All Creatures white? Or was he just very pale cream like pale Golden Retrievers? (Just re-watching all episodes on DVD!)

Long time ago but I remember him as being a light sable - pale fawn with black ears & mask.

No definitely no dark ears and no mask. http://www.wearysloth.com/Gallery/ActorsT/tve84097-19781021-13.jpg Looks more creamy in the photo, the DVDs are rather poor quality, everything is pale!

By heaven, he was white wasn't he...! Memory plays tricks. Was the peke in the cinema version darker? I saw that before the tv serial.

White is listed as an accepted registraion colour for Pekingese, and the standard says for colour "All colours and markings are permissible and of equal merit, except albino or liver. Parti-colours evenly broken."

Funnily enough I had only ever seen a white/v pale peke on tv as Tricky-Woo but one of my neighbours bought a white/pale cream bitch about 8 months ago. She is beautiful, and pekes are not usually my favourite breed, and despite her traditional peke shape really enjoys her exercise and bounds around with my OES.

So they're not some new "fad" colour then, as seen in Pugs/Frenchies/Staffs etc...I did check on KC website and note that white is a recognised colour in Pekes....I just don't recall ever seeing a white being shown, so it made me wonder what established breeders thought of them.

I may dig out some of my BRS and see if many are registered by well known breeders.

What a good idea. I've got a birthday coming up soo, now I know what to ask for - I never know when anyone asks me. (Sad, I know!) Hope they're not out of print, or whatever DVDs get.

I remembered him being white or pale cream. I seem to remember reading they had a lot of trouble finding one as fat as Tricki Woo was supposed to be, they had to backcomb it or something! I used to love reading the books!

I bought the box set off Amazon for my husband for Christmas, so not long ago. Perfect present, as it's one we can BOTH enjoy LOL.

I know someone who shows a white peke and got her from a very well known peke breeder.

Personally I like white the best but have only ever seen two in the ring

I have never seen a parti-colour Peke - I have just Googled them and the look glorious!!
- By Goldmali Date 29.03.13 16:26 UTC
I had a friend over for a visit yesterday, she's also a puppy buyer of mine. By pure chance she started telling me about this Pekingese she had in the early 70s -a WHITE one. :)

So they have obviously always been around then....strange that I haven't ever seen one. I did like Tricky-woo though, just didn't remember him as being white!
I wonder if breeders don't show them as much because they might be much higher maintenance coat wise, eye staining etc...I do like them a lot, in fact I'd consider having one!!

I think it's the same as in other breeds with various colours allowed.

Either the dominant colours tend to be seen more often due to genetics or certain colours at any time happen to have the quality animals, so are used more and come to predominate, like the Black Brindle in show Stafford's, Fawn and Brindle parti Whippets etc.
