My daughter was guarantor for her boyfriends flat tenancy. Now they have split up and she thinks she need only be guarantor until the end of the six month agreement, but it seems that if he rolls on the tenancy then the fact that she is guarantor rolls on too?? Does anyone know how to get out of this predicament?
Surely she could contact the owner of the flat and tell them that she will not be guarantor after the six month period. I would imagine that the owner would want to set up a new agreement after this period? Has she contacted the owner - or agency?

I would speak to the c.a.b. or a solicitor

Unfortuantely my daughter did this for my son and ended up being liable.
how did it all end though? it must get sorted eventually? was she taken to court?
We intend to speak to the landlord tomorrow, but wanted to know as much about it as possible first. Hopefully he will understand and be helpful :-)
> was she taken to court?
Yes. :(
OK spoke to the Estate Agents today and they said to write a letter saying we would like to end the status of Guarantor at the end of the six month tenancy. This gives the landlord time to sort out whether to keep the boyfriend on as a tenant or get him to find a new Guarantor, or of course evict him and start again. It seems its not as bad as we first thought but its not over yet. We need to receive the letter of confirmation from the landlord to say he agrees with it..... I'll let you know!

how is it going with the landlord ?
Just got the letter of confirmation saying the status of guarantor will end at the end of the six month tenancy! This is such a weight off our minds. Roll on July 1st when it will all be over :-)
