My brother and his wife have boiught a new toy poodle puppy, she is adorable and they are very happy with her. They are however unsure what size she will be as an adult.they think she might be on the large size for a toy.She is 12 weeks old and is 9 inches tall.Does anyone have a rough guess what her adult height may be?

the thing is they all grow at different stages and yes she could end up bigger thats why breeders hold back pups for showing :)

If you go and look up the breed at the KC website or the CD breeders section it will tell you all about the breed standard for all the sizes.

Where are you measuring to ?
My Toy Poodle is 12 months and is approx 10" to the shoulder. ( it's hard to measure as she is never still !! )

As she is only 3 months and the finished hight should be 11" she does seem a bit tall but as said they grow at different rates so she may be below 11" when she is fully grown or she may be over in which case she will be a miniature rather than a toy. Thing is with poodles none are in the Toy group they are all utility so really size is not that important she will still be beautiful to your brother and his wife.

Having had toy poodles in the past it does very much depend if she was bought from show lines or from pet breeders.  Show line puppies while they may still grow a little larger do have a much better chance to be within the correct height limit.  If the puppy came from a breeder who does not show, breeding from a line of purely pets then there is every chance it will be taller, maybe only an inch or two.  Our first toy was from a pet breeder and he was leggy and measured 12 inches, but back then we didn't know how to find pups from a reputable show breeder and I wish we did as I'd loved to have shown him.  He was a great dog and I still called him a toy poodle :)  She does sound a little tall for her age, perhaps speak to the breeder they will know their breeding and what is usual for her puppies.  If she isn't intending to show then won't be disappointed, love takes over and really she won't care if she's an inch or two over height.  I'd love a new poodle puppy :)

A Toy is still a Toy even if it is over the acceptable height.
An oversized Miniature isn't a Standard, and an undersized Miniature isn't a Toy.

The measurement is to the shoulder. She is just froma pet litter and theyre not bothered what height she will be,just curious thats all.

No of course not but if the pup is a pet what does it matter as you can get bother types that are 11" and if it comes to that a couple of inches either side - it makes no difference to the dog or to the owner.
