Not sure if this is near you, but you could enquire with Look North grooming in Keighley, they are a training centre.

Also ask the Pet Industry Federation (the name new for the Pet Care Trade Association) they will have a list of groomer training centres.  Its petcare.org.uk.

Although I don't know of any places to go in the area, I'm located in the East Midlands as well and might be able to ask around if you haven't found anything yet or could help you out myself if you live close enough.

There are actually quite a few good instructional videos on YouTube and I've found the book Notes From The Grooming Table to be incredibly helpful (although a bit expensive) for learning about different grooming techniques and breeds.

You might look to look at this website for City & Guilds qualifications if you want to go into this further :-  http://www.cityandguilds.com/Courses-and-Qualifications/land-based-services/animal-management/7763-dog-grooming/level-3

I know in my breed there are breeders that run grooming seminars/days to teach pet owners/other breeders how to trim their own dogs and we have breed club members who are prepared to teach grooming to other members.  Would it be worth contacting the secretaries of your clubs to see if they know of anyone who could do some tuition with you or members that run such training days?
