Topic Dog Boards / Health / Dissolveable stitches after neutering

I had my 8 months old Morkie neutered last Saturday (9th) my question is how long should I leave it before I leave any cover off of the dissolveable stitches, i've not had a cone collar on him, he is wearing a baby vest, poppered up behind his tail, he is quite comfy in his vest but for the last week i've not left him on his own in case he wants a wee etc so how long before I can leave his vest off as obviously I don't want to risk him nibbling at his stitches, any info would be appreciated.

Are the stitches concealed ones? My newest rescue was neutered a few weeks ago and I used a comfy collar on him at night time to stop any excess licking - he had a check up after 7 days and was able to be lead walked after that. The stitches weren't visible at all - so much easier than when the other dogs were neutered and had normal stitches which had to be removed once the area had healed  and the other two dogs were constantly trying to get at the stitches.

With the concealed stitches my dog didn't really take any notice of the wound and the collar was only used as a preventative measure.

the wound is probably about half inch long, at the top of the wound is the 'knot' from the stitches and I can't see any stitching down the wound so am assuming they are internal.  When I take his vest off for him to go for a wee, he'll try to lick his stitches before I can get his vest back on.

well i've taken his vest off of him this evening and apart from a couple of licks of the wound he hasn't bothered with it so am really pleased and will keep an eye on him and unless he really has a go at the wound i'll leave the vest off now.
