Zuma - 5 ½ yr GSD -  had a p-monas infection on his nose -diagnosed by swabs- at end of May last year, He was prescribed Marbocyl ABs and  it was finally clear - more swabs - on Aug 13.
He had another outbreak noticed on Nov 6 and had 24 days of Marbocyl which cleared it.
I have just noticed it starting again .....it has come up in about 2 days as I check his nose every 2-3 days..........yes I know..paranoid!!!
Vet said its not unusual in ears but he has not seen it like this before
Anyone with any thoughts, I am probably going to ask for a referral this time to see if there is anything underlying going on - AHT is only about 24 miles and I was told they have a dermatology dept.

No experience quite like this but my old dobe fought it for several months in her nail beds - flipping evil it was, and her vet at the time said she'd never known it turn up there.  In her case it took about a two month solid course of metranidozole to beat it, she lost several nails in the process as it just ate them away.  She did have a shorter course to start with of a couple of weeks which appeared to clear it but it came back - second time around one vet said we should keep her on it for a couple of weeks at least after it appeared clear, and when another vet said she looked fine and to stop I insisted on keeping her on it and it made the difference.  You really do have to keep on going after the visible symptoms have cleared to make sure it's really gone - otherwise you can risk it becoming resistant to the drug you're using and getting an even stronger foothold.

At one point we tried atopica but it made no difference.  IIRC she started on noroclav which didn't help, then marbocyl which made a wee dent but not much, and at that point she was swabbed and the resulting colonies were tested at the same time to see which AB was the most effective - that was the metranidozole.

Thanks for that, the first time the swab results showed Marbocyl as the only AB that would be effective. He was on them for 7 ½ weeks and swabed again and showed clear.
The senior vet is pretty good but we did see some of the others - branch surgery - and they wanted to do a biopsy - on his nose- I said 'no thanks' and senior vet said it would not necessarily show anything useful!.
Your experience makes me think I will definatly push for a referral ( thank dog for insurance) as ABs are about £4 EACH, bill was just under £500 and 3 outbreaks in 10 months is getting silly.
