Has anyone use the Fit and Fertile doppler you can hire for 14 days. I wondered if it would stop me worrying for the next couple of weeks. My girl is quite relaxed about being handled as she was shown for a few years.

Before I bought my own doppler I just used a cheap stethoscope that I bought years ago from the learning centre in the days before it wasn't easy or was very expensive for nurses to have their own.
I used to have my own doppler and used it with great success but I think that Rhodach's idea is much better than OP's original suggestion. ;) ;)
i used 1 from fit and fertile i couldnt use it, it was the wrong kind they had sent me it was 1 for pregnent human not dog :( sorry to say it was a waste of money but use a stethascope i could listern in with that :)
I couldn't remember who it was! *wink wink* :)

I use a stethascope and i have my own doppler! i love it...advise from certain people on here have helped me learn and make good choices ect...try a good breeder who kows what theyre doing,(not saying that fit n fertile dont at all)but a breeder can help you learn how to use one so maybe you coud get your own...i wouldnt be without mine!!!!
where abouts are you?maybe someone on here can lend you one?
you have to make sure you got the right 1 for dogs 1st its to do with the sound waves and animals and humans are different thats why the 1 i got didnt work :(!

I've got a human one and can pick pups up no problem
Well I have bit the bullet and bought one now. It looks like the one they hire out for dogs but we will see. It will help to keep me amused anyway and if it no good I can always sell it I suppose.
Thanks all for your input.
Hi SAharon
As you have used the human one and picked up pups can you ( or anyone else who has with success ) tell me about readings and experiences. I've got readings but they are between 50 and 70 whicdh are all too low.

It's a while since I used mine to remember numbers but I started off counting Mum's heart rate which would be picked up in her aorta as it travels through her body, the pups were much quicker and more whooshy due to the fluid.
Girls are suppose to be faster than boys, my first litter were all boys so unable to agree or disagree and second litter did vary but one bitch pup fresh still born and other 2 were dead a while and I was unable to see sex so again not able to prove the theory.
I bought it to just check heart beats were there before I could see/feel movement after so many phantoms with one of my girls.
So what do you think about the fact that the readings were low?
The canine ultrasound has no readings. It's use it all about recognising the different sounds and what they are and knowing where to look to count the numbers, so sorry, can't help with this method.
Well to-night I could not contain myself as something was said early on (after the early scan ) to worry me. I went to the vet for a scan ( she is due on the 19th ). He confirmed all OK as although he will never talk about numbers we saw 3, spines, head etc so I am reassured. He also said he didn't really know about the human doppler but it was possible that the low readings were picking up puppies. I have no idea whether he is right about that but I will sleep a bit better to-night!
