Well we have had a pretty traumatic 3 weeks really, loosing Pepsi, was just the start.
The whelping seemed to go well but things deteriorated after what we thought was the last Pup born at 6am on Tues (A week ago ) morning. I had had the vet (Not my usuall but one from my practice) out at 3am early hours Tues to make sure  she had finished and there were no pups left. She assured us she could feel nothing, gave Vino a shot to help clear any debris away who then had a couple of healf hearted grunts and settled down happily to feed and care for her new family. One more was born dead at 6am, after a couple of sudden contractions. I had the vet out again at 9am to re-check ( a vet I often use) who felt Vino and found 2 more pups. So the inexperienced vet at 3am had actually missed 3 pups !! We scanned her then and could find no heartbeats so with some hard work and a couple of shots Vino with help from the vet did eventually manage to push the 2 dead pups out,she then had a bleed and we had to have some emergency surgery to repair a small tear in her uterus (Luckily it was minor. ) Anyway Vino and the 6 surviving pups are doing well. but Vino is being very picky about eating now ! I had tempted her with a little cooked chicken breast and some soaked puppy kibble as she would not look at her normal raw diet. I have beed trying for the last few days to introduce her normal diet again but she is being very stubbern. She has plenty of milk for the babies and is drinking well. She is turning her nose up to anything except boiled chicken and soaked kibble and though I am happy to continue for the moment I do worry a little that for a raw fed dog she will become hooked on the kibble. I feel I cannot be too forcefull with her at the moment as she needs the food. I am trying to add odd bits but she is pushing them to one side. My memory being a little fuddled with stress and lack of sleep I cannot remember when the eat anything that does not movestage normally begins !!
To put the icing on the cake Merlot went in the Thursday before the pups were born for tests as she has been "not quite herself" full bloods, scans and tests revealed a diagnosis of Cushings syndrome, a fine needle aspirate of a odd lump on a lymph gland in her jaw was performed and although initially we thought it was connected to the cushings it seems to be something else. Merlot went in yesterday for surgery to remove it and x-rays of her chest. The scans of liver/spleen/kidneys and xray of lungs are all clear but we now wait for the results of the full analysis of the lump. As you can see we have had a stressfull time and worrying about Vino eating is the last thing I need just now.

oh gosh I am so sorry for all you are going through what an awful time. I dont have any experience of breeding so cant give any advice. :(

I would however not worry about her prefering kibble atm worry about that later when you have got through the worst of all of this and have 6 lovely health pups and mum as well.

I am sure in the end she well be happy again with raw. Btw I am a dedicated raw feeder so can understand why you would prefer her not to want kibble

I wouldn't worry about the return to raw either.  Feed stinky sardines.  Cook some minced steak.  Anything really.  Mine go totally off kibble, and I have to buy them chicken breast, steak, and bags of white fish, which I poach in half milk, half water.

I do anything that helps them rear pups without losing condition.  I am so very sorry that you are in such a bad place now.

TBH, I would feed anything during the 'feeding' time.  I would not worry too much with regards to the kibble as she obviously feels that is what she 'needs' or wants at the minute.  you can be harder with her when she's not needing to make the milk any longer but for the time being, I would give her anything.  Mine went the other way though.  She would have eaten me if I slept beside her!!  She loved stinky raw meat but the bones took too long so she did try and inhale those.  Pretty manic feeding times!! Then the little monsters joined in and she got worse.
So sorry you have had such an awful time.  Hope your luck picks up soon.

I use the broth from cooking the chicken to soak the kibble as they aren't interested other wise, cooked lamb juices and all, sardines or pichards, salmon mousee from Fish4dogs, yoghurt, cottage cheese, cheddar anything I can think of, never had a problem getting them back to normal diet[free fed kibble] when they are back into tip top condition.

I think some posters are misunderstanding the bitch is preferring the kibble.

To be honest I am not that surprised, as it is easier (and more importantly quicker) to eat in the quantities she needs (concentrated), especially as she has other things for flavour/enjoyment.

I would offer her what you want to have and alongside have kibble always topped up, so she can eat what she wants/needs.
