Topic Dog Boards / General / Good thick poop bags?
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 24.02.13 11:46 UTC
I am fed of thin poop bags and wondered where I can get good ones that have some substance to them!
I picked up some free ones from the vet that were complimentary from milbermax (worming promotion no doubt) they were brilliant but I couldn't buy them as vet reception said they just get given them to put out for clients. I did take a handful!
All the pet shops seem to just do the average run of the mill bags and some are so flimsy and fly about in the wind when your trying to pick up.

Nappy sacks ?
- By newyork [gb] Date 24.02.13 11:57 UTC
I use plastic freezer bags from Aldi. they now have tie handles and are a good size.
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 24.02.13 12:06 UTC
Nappy sacks - the ones I have are thin and don't like the smell! Maybe I have the wrong ones and they were very cheap.
With sandwich bags are they see through?
Thank you
- By ridgielover Date 24.02.13 12:06 UTC
I use scented nappy bags
- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 24.02.13 12:08 UTC
Does your local Boro/District council sell them . Mine does and while they are not quite as thick as they used to be they are better than a lot of net/petshop ones.

I bought some on net a couple of years ago -2 x 100 packs - and they ended up in the bin about 3 days later. they were sold as 'lightly scented' They STANK!!!
Very strong smell like a VERY cheap air freshener, You could smell them even when still in the sealed pack!
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 24.02.13 12:15 UTC
Yes exactly I'd rather have odour of doggy poop than cheap air freshner! Yes I think the council do sell them and my friend works for them so will check with her, thanks forgot they did them.
- By Wait Ok Date 24.02.13 12:45 UTC
I get my bags from; "dogpoopbags.co.uk" they are thick and strong, I never worry about my fingers going through. contact number; 01561 378462.
I would rather pay a little more and know that they are strong than have scented / cheapies !
- By Celtic Lad [gb] Date 24.02.13 13:31 UTC
Get mines free from local council.
- By rabid [gb] Date 24.02.13 14:13 UTC
I use biodegradable nappy bags.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.02.13 15:44 UTC
Your local council will give you them in most cases and they re industrial strength.

A friend always gets us a couple of sets of 10 when eh pays his council tax, but more usually I prefer the thin budget nappy sacks from tesco as you can get 20 in your pocket and hardly notice, the thick ones I often think I have a pocket full only to realise I only have half a dozen.

As I walk 6 dogs at once it is important I don't run out.

I often use 1 big one to put several of the small ones in.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 24.02.13 16:18 UTC
I love how people reply and tell you what they use without any suggestions or answering your question - very helpful :-/
I use nappy sacks which are very thin (from morrisons I think) and sometimes double bag them before picking up the poop. my mum managed to pick up nappy sacks from asda that were black and reasonably thick, more like a decent bin bag material As with all nappy sacks they are quite cheap too, bonus!! Ive never bought purpose built poo bags as it were. Would imagine they are quite expensive?
- By itsadogslife [gb] Date 24.02.13 17:47 UTC
I also use biodegradable nappy sacs from Tesco. About 75p a packet, bright blue & fairly pleasant smell although not too overpowering. they're plenty big enough & nice to know will rot down naturally.

I never use the thin ones - absolutley gross when picking up warm poo when you may as well be picking it up in your bare hands!!
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 24.02.13 18:22 UTC
I use Sainsburys nappy sacks, quite sturdy and a pleasant smell.
- By Clumberjack [gb] Date 24.02.13 18:35 UTC
Sainsburys have just changed their own brand poo bags - they are biodegradable and bigger than before. They are plenty thick enough (much better than the last brand I bought in an emergency!) and don't have a scent. I didn't think that £1.09 for 50 was too bad either as their large size means I can usually fit two deposits in each one. I use cheap nappy sacks for at home in the garden as I only have to carry it back to the patio!
- By karencharlton [gb] Date 24.02.13 19:06 UTC
biodegradable nappy sacs from Tesco. absolutly fab
- By bestdogs Date 24.02.13 19:15 UTC
Another fan of Tesco's blue nappy sacks or Sainsbury's peach coloured- both equally strong in my opinion.
- By Chatsworth [gb] Date 24.02.13 19:27 UTC
Teso blue for me too, except last time I went for some they only had the pink transparent ones. :-(
- By Harley Date 24.02.13 20:29 UTC
Tesco blue as well :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.02.13 20:39 UTC
He he, Tesco blue fan too.
- By wendy [gb] Date 24.02.13 20:43 UTC
I use these  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biodegradable-Poop-Bags-FREE-POSTAGE/dp/B001CKXMD4
- By suejaw Date 24.02.13 20:59 UTC
I agree with those ones from those supermarkets plus Waitrose own and also the most expensive bio degradable ones from Asda, don't think it's their own brand though.

The cheaper they are the crappier they are!
- By ChristineW Date 24.02.13 21:43 UTC
Pets at Home lightly scented black poo bags which you can tie.  It is handy for me because this is what Perth & Kinross are giving out as the free poo bags so I make sure I have a good stash.

>The cheaper they are the crappier they are!

No pun intended!  :-)
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 25.02.13 08:53 UTC
We use Tesco 75 degradable nappy bags, bright yellow pack, blue bags. Have bought nappy bags from every supermarket and have found these to be the best, nails go through the cheap ones! Have also tried Bob Martins black bags, in my opinion not as good as the Tesco blue ones.  The only down side is that our nearest Tesco (20 odd miles each way) never has them so we go to another Tesco and buy 10 packets at a time, goodness knows what the cashier must think!

I bought these as use a dispenser round my neck with my whistle and they are a good thickness and strong enough scent which can mask whiffy poos well.

I also use them to do poo patrol as they are big enough to get the small shovel I use into them and can carry a good few lab sized poos without any problem.

Saves me having poo bags in pockets all the time !
- By Multitask [gb] Date 25.02.13 10:12 UTC
I find that the ones sold by Home Bargains are pretty good, black, pack of 100 for less than £1 not biodegradeable as we had a mishap with them earlier in the year.  I had pockets full I found in a coat I hadn't worn for ages and when I went to use one it literally fell apart in my hands and on closer inspection my pocket was full of shards of plastic and holey bags!  So I like the HB ones, blue box less than a quid.  As raw fed dogs poos here are solid and easy to pick up so I've never had a poo up the nails episode yet but not sure how they'd perform on sloppier poo :)
- By chaumsong Date 25.02.13 10:14 UTC
Asda or tesco own make nappy sacks are nice and thick, not the very cheapest ones though (smartprice or value) they're horribly thin!
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 25.02.13 10:27 UTC
I have ordered samples from muttsbutts for a £1 you don't get many but at least I can tell what thickness are better as some are 15micron and some are 25micron. I am probably getting a bit obsessed with this now!
Waitrose do some maroon coloured ones but they are expensive but a really good bag.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 25.02.13 11:21 UTC
The Pedigree ones were good but they don't do them in PAH anymore. I find the bags of 200 from PAH are absolutely rubbish, but the bags that come in 50s are ok. For me they have to be black so I can't see the poo inside while I'm carrying it along until we spot a poo bin! Can't stand the sickly scent on the nappy sacks!
- By marisa [gb] Date 25.02.13 12:25 UTC
I also use biodegradable nappy sacs from Tesco. About 75p a packet, bright blue & fairly pleasant smell although not too overpowering. they're plenty big enough & nice to know will rot down naturally.

We use these and also the Tesco value ones (thinner but you get more bags, depends what the poo is like I'm picking up as to which one I use lol).
- By Boody Date 25.02.13 13:59 UTC
I try to buy biodegradable after watching a program about how bag were a blight and bane of the tips life.
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 25.02.13 15:35 UTC
All of our dogs' poops are totally solid, never have to pick up a sloppy poop. My comment about nails going through the horrid cheap bags was when taking the bags out of the packet.
- By karencharlton [gb] Date 27.02.13 15:49 UTC
Our nearest tesco is about 15 miles for us as well so we buy 12 packs at at time, but my sister told me about ikea's she said they are extra thick and very very cheap
- By Elly [gb] Date 27.02.13 20:54 UTC
Waitrose large nappy bags..an ok peachy / pale orange colour and large and strong,  pleasant subtle fragrance :)
- By parrysite [gb] Date 28.02.13 21:25 UTC
I use Earth Rated Poop bags from TK Maxx, these are by far the best I've had. You get around 120 for £3 so not cheap but I only have one dog and he is raw fed, so has tiny poos and so doesn't bother me and they last me forever!

They smell lovely, lavender scented but it doesn't smell artificial at all, and the bags are thick and really long, too. The only thing thats a pain is that I've never seen them in supermarkets, it's TK Maxx only as far as I'm aware.

I've just ordered some of these as suggested by wendy. They turned up the next day so good service, and they look very promising!
- By lel [gb] Date 01.03.13 10:22 UTC
the ones Home & Bargain sell arent bad. Thicker than the cheap nappy bags and about 79p for 100. Cant remember the name of them
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 01.03.13 11:02 UTC
My samples arrived quick from muttsbutts and they grade them in microns, the higher the micron count the thicker the bag.
The premium bag at 25 microns is a good thickness bag and once I have used the ones from the council I shall be ordering these. Their  bags are all biodegradable.
- By debby1 [gb] Date 03.03.13 03:55 UTC
These are the ones that we use, they are really strong and they are also the ones that the dog warden gives out that's if you ever see him!

- By Brainless [gb] Date 03.03.13 08:44 UTC
Personally I think that all nappy/poo bags should be biodegradeable
- By RootyTooty [gb] Date 04.03.13 22:20 UTC
Agree with Josh about these being good. I also get them from Tk Maxx not having seen them on sale anywhere else.
