I have put labrador but it will probably apply to other breeds. Bingo has often had a jumpy leg when laying down, kicks his foot out, like a tickle or nerve jump, however several times now when playing with his ball he has cried out. We at first looked for thorns, stings or cuts but now realise he twists it or something similar. It's his right rear and seems to be the lower part or foot, but it's a job to tell. Wondered if Mattie or John or anyone had any ideas.
Thanks tangle.

Thanks for replying Mattie. He's the Lab with all the probs that I spoke to you about on the phone that we got the refund for. He was 18months old last week. Our last dog had an operation and arthritis from the age of 4yrs. Hope he's not going down that road. He has enough to contend with. Will have to see the vet soon anyway. He can still only do about 15mins play at a time so it is not over exertion. Feel I could strangle his so called reputable breeder. Hope your new baby is doing ok, expect he is growing fast.

One of my Labs was inclined to kick in her sleep, I would not put too much on that. The crying out when playing is a different kettle of fish entirely! You can't provoke it by moving, pressing or twisting the leg? Have you notices exactly when it happens? Is it when he turns or jumps or anything like that? At the end of the day I think it’s a trip to the vets but the more info you have the more you can give the vet and the easier it will be for him.
Sorry I'm not more help, it could be almost anything from a sprain upwards.
Regards, John
Hi Tangle, most of mine have various twitches when asleep! But my one who had a partial cruciament ligament tear did that when she hurt herself. Sort of kicking her back leg out, I think a visir to the vet.

Bingo has one or two little problems again at the moment so will ask the vets opinion. We have never had a dog dream or twitch as much as him and he really is a job to wake. He does the other kick when he is laying awake and when actually starting to lay down. The yelp is only when playing and is just now and again, not regular. tangle

We have also had them kick whilst asleep but he does it while awake. We didn't connect the two until he yelped again yesterday, it is when turning or jumping. His discomfort only lasts a minute or two. He is at the vets pretty regular so will mention it to him next time.
Thanks tangle.
PS. As you are really into Labs perhaps you would be interested to know that Renacre Copperhill Tangle was the sire of our first pedigree bitch Siewlee Brandy Bubble in 1969. He was a lovely looking dog with what I think was a lovely name, hence computer name.
