Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / changes to Orijen
- By rabid [gb] Date 01.02.13 13:58 UTC
I just saw that Orijen are changing their recipes, and this is why the food hasn't been that available recently.

The changes seem to be 'whole prey' - ie - they are including organ meat and ground bone in the foods, not just muscle meat.

However I believe the bags have gotten smaller and more expensive.

The brochure for the new foods is here:

You are correct rabid. With the price increase and reduction in pack sizes (to come in line with Acana) I think they may well price themselves out of the market. In the current economic climate I can't see people will be willing to pay nearly £70 for a 13kg bag of food, let alone nearly £90 for the Regional Red! No matter how good the food may be, I think people will look for cheaper alternatives.

I have recently tried "Eden" which is an 80/20 split.

So far, so good... it may be worth you looking at if you are looking to change.....

Eek, I hope hubby doesn't say we can't have it anymore, it's the only thing my picky princess will eat, and even then it has to be mixed with actual meat!

Pedlee, what are the new prices going to be?  I didn't see that...

Sorry Gill. I stock Orijen/Acana through my business (hence I have up front knowledge of price increases) so didn't want to be seen as promoting it. The prices come into effect 14th Feb.

I can see why it got more expensive due to the fact a lot more meat, organ in it- which means the
dogs should more then likely eat less.

Almost sounds kinda like Back to Basic dogfood  :-) Like the ingredients in this one better tho
