My pups are two weeks now and for a few days have had very sporadic random lumps which turn to scabs and drop off.one has one on chest and one on side.another has one either side and another on chest and under armpit.they are feeding well, gaining weight and seemingly strong healthy pups. No discharge or anything else from spots and don't look infected.these spots are very tiny. Nothing on heads. Any thoughts please
Most likely a bacterial infection, probably caused by the dam licking the pups. The few spots already seen may simply resolve themselves naturally. If you are at all worried you should take them to your Vet who might prescribe a course of antibiotics.
These are quite common in my short haired gundog breed they tend to apprear at around 2- 4 days old and look like cradle cap in a baby
We treat them by washing them every other day over a week in diluted betadine thats clears them up.
If it is the same thing we had swab and everything done nothing shows it seem quite common, I wonder if it anything to do with the milk changing from colostrum
