Topic Dog Boards / Showing / 'Special' classes at Crufts

So I know what makes a class 'special' at Crufts but my question is, do 2nd & 3rd places in Spec Puppy & Spec Junior at Crufts still qualify you for Crufts the following year?  I know 1st will as 1st in ANY class at Crufts qualifies you.  I'm wondering why people would bother entering Spec Junior rather than yearling if they have a junior dog? Am I making sense?
Thanks

Taken from this year's schedule:
Awards as above qualify a dog for entry at Crufts 2013 only if the class in which the award was gained
was not made 'Special' in any way, i.e. by age, colour, height, weight, coat, to members of a society, to
breeders etc. An exception is made only in the case of Prize Winners in Special Puppy and Special
Junior at Crufts 2012.

So yes, 2nd and 3rd in Special Puppy and Special Junior are qualifying places.
