My GR is just over 6months old and I'm after advice from you all again. I put her onto 2 meals not to long ago but over the last few days she's not really bothered with her food at all. We had been putting water with it so we stopped it and gave it to her dry, still not fussed (she's on AG kibble) we put her food down at breakfast today and she hasn't bothered with it, I gave her half a chicken wing at lunchtime to see if she would eat it which she did. It's now 7.15pm and she's had a a few nibbles of it. She was sick in the car yesterday, not while moving and she's used to going in the car but it didn't smell horrible as you would expect it was just biscuit and water. She's not been sick again and she seems happy and playful. So what do I do should I take her to the vets to get her checked which feels strange when she's now getting all her toys out and giving them all a good shaking mmm what do you all think.
6 months is a classic time for a bit of owner training and most pups take the chance to educate you about their food preferences !
I'm not saying it isn't a genuine health issue but faddy eating often comes in around now. If that's what this is then it's probably just a phase but I'm not surprised she'll choose a wing over dry kibble - most raw eaters have a definite preference for meat and bones. If you are happy with kibble then check your weights to make sure you're not overfeeding her and simply pick it up after 10 minutes if she hasn't eaten it. Don't be tempted to change varieties or add lots of different toppers if you want to avoid becoming her kitchen maid for the next few months :)
Something else to consider is that she might be coming into season soon...
I didn't think about season effecting it till you mentioned it. She's been on the same amount of food for quite a while now but as she looked and seemed fine I've not altered it other than go from 3 to 2 meals. The half a chicken wing was a bit of a test, if she didn't want it I knew something was amiss but she chomped on it quite happily.
As it was kibble I'd been putting it down at breakfast and leaving it, is it better then for me to take it away after so long as you said. I know some people just put food down and the dogs eat it as and when but I've always had GR and found if I did that they would just keep eating lol so have never done. I did wonder if she was testing a bit and seeing what would happen if she didn't eat and after seeing your reply makes it easier to carry on and just keep an eye on her.
