Does anyone have any recommendations for window screens for the house ?
We'll be getting a new kitten ( from Christine ) next week, and for the first time, he'll be a house cat, I've found about three suppliers online, but know absolutely nothing about what makes a good screen. we'll really only need them on three of the windows as the others are never open, any experience would be much appreciated.

Oh... In that case
My advice: Forget the sitting room!the sofa, bed, warmest spot in the kitchen... None of these are your own now, you will be graciously allowed by him to 'borrow' them occasionally on the provision your lap is not your own... But his!
;-)

I have two of Christine's kittens!
(Best temperaments we've ever had! Even my Siberian Husky adores them they all go mousing together in the garage! They're a perfect mix of bold, independent but total love bugs and lap cats!! And they are totally bomb proof when they leave Christine, our two travelled from Scotland to Kent perfectly and they've been perfect ever since!)

- Sorry no advice on screens! :-D

Lol.
Our one who will be called Mungo ( after Mungo Park, African explorer from Selkirk ), is hummungus , which is just what we wanted, can hardly wait, I keep saying to Ed " this time next week.....". It'll certainly be all change once he's here.
I have crates and " sanctuary room" all set up, he'll probably look at at it and go " that for the dog ? " lol.
luckily Christine and I live just 30 minutes from each other, so no long journey for him either.

The best person to ask about screens etc, would be Christine, her cats are indoor cats and her advice would be invaluable ;-)

It's so exciting having a new kitten, they are so entertaining and lovable, I feel really envious:-)

We had indoor cats for over 18 years, they don't seem to miss the outdoors as long as you keep them entertained, we found that having two made a huge difference as they had a companion to play with as well as us humans.   Was bedlam at times, especially as they were both Burmese and very energetic, but so much fun!

It's a Selkirk Rex we're getting.
I have asked Christine , but she didn't know anyone who had used them.
I've found one company who's screens seem to be more robust than others and are made specifically for cats, most seem to be made from coated fibre glass, but they have an extra tough version made from aluminium. more expensive of course, but worth it for the peace of mind.

The only one I found was flatcats but I expect you have looked at those

One here which you've probably already found...

We always noticed these screens when holidaying in France - great for keeping mozzies out but the lightweight ones aren't any good for cats.  We had a visiting cat one year who would come and lean on the screen to let himself in!!  Presumably he'd learnt to do this over the years but the mesh simply popped out so he was triumphant when he arrived on our bed    ...every night at 3am and usually with a dead furry gift :)

I wonder if you could talk to a handy carpenter or DIY man to make you something.  If you have standard sized windows you could probably get him to make you a pop in frame which could then be moved between windows.  Alternatively have a chat with a local window company to see if they have any recommendations or can help you.

Whilst at the aforementioned holiday home, and after 5 days of nuisance visits from this very noisy (and flea ridden) tom cat, my husband made a screen from some wood and chicken wire (actually smaller holes than chicken wire but I'm sure you'd get something like it here too).  Not very glamourous but very effective and cheap too, just be sure it's strong enough to withstand a climbing cat and well secured in the window aperture.  This might be a good temporary option whilst you do some more research

I did see the Flatcat ones but I don't think they'd be robust enough.
D a B, I hadn't seen that site so thanks for that, I'll have a good look at it, seems similar to the one I'd ear marked already.
We have a bit of time to choose ,it being winter, but will certainly need to get them in the next few months. Doors aren't a problem ,thankfully ,as we have inner doors on both front and back so they can be shut before the outer one is open.
