Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Eden food - v similar to Orijen
- By rabid [gb] Date 02.01.13 10:55 UTC
Has anyone fed Eden food and what did they make of it?  It is made in the UK and based on the make-up of Orijen (80% meat and 20% fruit and vet).

It is slightly cheaper than Orijen but not by much if you have an Orijen  breeder's account.

Don't know anything about them but I would be always loathe to buy an imported food where ever there was a home produced alternative because of the impact on the environment so, if I was in the market for this type of food, I would certainly be choosing this one.

Simpsons are also bringing out and 80/20 http://www.simpsonspremium.com/80-20 , and they say THEY ARE THE FIRST UK produced food of this type?

Obviously much better prices on the breeder scheme.

That's v interesting, the Simpsons mixed one looks very similar (but not identical) to the Eden food.  It must be a good sign that there is now a choice of foods like this, rather than Orijen cornering the market.

What about applaws? They're a UK company and my lot are doing very well on their dry food, no grain, just meat (75%) and veg :-)

I tried both Eden and Applaws but Daisy wasn't that keen on either which is a shame, I'd love to spend a bit less and keep my money in the UK.

Mine have moved onto this and they are doing really well and coats have never been so shiny. The website is a bit hard to get round but worth it.

Prices are £48.95 for 14.5kg but they do smaller and larger bags( I think they do breeder discounts but not sure)The duck and lamb is £49.99 for 14.5kg, but on putting a bag into the basket I have been given a 10% discount. They also do fish skins. They are very helpful on the phone and also very knowledgeable. You will see they are breeders http://www.millieswolfheart.co.uk/#/about-us/4566114215

Celli,
Were your dogs on Orijen previously?
The only reason I ask is that mine was on Orijen and I have been using Simpsons and it has gone down very well.
( I must add mine is ordinarily fed raw, but I like them to be able to take Kibble too ( should the need arise) <~ which was very handy when the beginning of last year I was rushed into hospital with no notice to have emergency surgery and family ( that don't raw feed) had to take dog in and were not able to speak to me to find out what to feed)

I particularly like Simpson's customer care!
It's very very good and I love that from ordering they stay constantly in touch with you via text or email to the point where you get a text on delivery day to say 'your delivery will be arriving between [ a two hour time frame given]' ... Which means I don't have to wait in all morning/afternoon for a delivery ~ brilliant!

Hope this helps.

Mine are currently on Orijen under the breeder scheme, but since Bern Pet Foods seems to be sold out of Orijen in big bags at the moment, I thought I'd try the Eden.  Ordered 2 bags of that...

which one have yours done best on?

I feed part raw, part kibble and have been using the Simpsons Salmon and Potato - even my picky boy eats it and output/coats/pigment/skin all good.  I second the reports of good customer service and the breeder club prices are great.  I have looked at the 80/20 range and other brands with a high percentage but I feed 50% raw so didn't see the point!

Salmon and potato got the paws up here Barbara.
Storm was swapped straight on to it with no 'weaning' from previous diet and his 'out put' didn't suffer at all ( which is usually my gauge as he has a very 'Siberian temperamental' digestive system.)

Note: Not something I would normally do, but circumstances meant it was unavoidable on this occasion.

Celli,

Yes, been on Orijen for a few years barring two years raw fed which she's now decided is horrible, I'll have a look at Simpsons, thank's for the suggestion.

I have used their lamb and Rice and am giving the Salmon and Rice a go, (though haven't started it yet) considered the potatoe one but don't like the way the salmon content is described (mix of fresh and meal) so I can't quantify it properly.

Barbara
Have you ever tried Wainwright's salmon and potato?
- By georgepig [gb] Date 07.01.13 20:46 UTC
I, well George, has and I would say its the food that has suited him best. Tried orijen for about a year but his poos were always a bit loose, TOTW was good but hard to get hold of and the price rocketed so now he's on wainwrights salmon and potato (again) and looks really good on it. I also find it very easy to get hold of. He gets raw chicken/eggs/fish/mince/Etc regularly but kibble is the mainstay of his diet.
