I am thinking of showing my (future) Boston pup bitch and have no idea where to start, I live near Wigan so was thinking of going to some shows and popping along to some ringcraft classes (minus pup) but cant find any shows and was wondering if anyone can recommend any classes locally. Are there any good books to read on how to get started? All the terminology is a bit of a mindfield to me. I have searched the web and cant find where shows (dont even mind the breed to begin with) take place, can anyone help??

Think you would be best served to buy from a showing breeder who will help you.

If you go to the Kennel Club website and (from memory) go to activities then showing - you can find a list of dog show for the next 3 months - some maybe local to you. We spent a while going to shows and talking to owners of our breed before committing to getting a puppy. Most owners will be more than happy to speak to you. Whilst you are at the shows you can learn a lot by watching. There is a general champ show at Stafford around 19th/20th Jan if not too far for you - will be lots of Bostons there I would imagine.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome. Your closest ringcraft is Wigan Canine Society who meet on a Monday evening in Standish, they have a website with all their details on. I don't think many of the local Open Shows will have Boston classes, but you may see the odd one in the variety classes. Clitheroe Canine Society have an Open Show this Saturday, but not sure whether they have Boston classes on. If you pop along to Wigan Ringcraft you will be able to pick up schedules for the local shows.

...and also classes for your breed eve closer to home at Leigh Canine Society Open Show, Saturday 02/02/2013, held at Little Lever Leisure and Community Centre, Bolton BL3 1BT.
You can pick up show schedules at ringcraft classes, shows and look online at Fossedata and Arena Print. Good luck with your new girl!
Contact Ronnie Tanner, Boston Terrier club secretary for a chat .. I'm sure she will point you in the right direction (sorry havn't got her details to hand, but she is easy to find on google)
Sorry, had a dig through my pile of paperwork in bedside cabinet ... she is 01892 652095

Agree go though the breed club to source an ethical, and knowledgeable breeder. I did this 15 years ago when researching a Boston pup for friends of mien sadly he died two years ago after a happy life with them.
Heywood and Radcliffe have a show at Sutton lesiure centre, St Helens WA9 5AU Sun 6th Jan. Bostons are first breed in at 9.30
