Okay, this is just something we might have to live with... but we'd rather not if any enlightened people can offer suggestions.
Our Greyhound has settled in really well, but he has silent deadlies and is costing us a fortune in Neutradol :) I know Dogs will, but...
Any suggestions? We are feeding him Burgess Greyhound/Lurcher
Well - lots of wind usually means his food isn't agreeing with him. Would you consider feeding raw? My 2 don't fart - or at least it doesn't smell!! There are all sorts of other benefits if you are open to the idea.
I do know that some dogs are naturally a bit gassy but in most cases diet and exercise solve the problem. Have a look at what you feed and when. Does it usually happen in the evening? How long since the last meal?
In deep chested breeds you'd rather they reduced excess gas by farting or burping as trapped air can be fatal - have a look at "canine bloat". However it's better to avoid it altogether and I'd treat gas as a health problem
If your dog is producing excess or foul smelling gas then consider changing his food - he might be struggling to digest it and it's sitting in the gut too long. A short evening stroll, approx. 2 hours or more after eating, can also help as exercise aids peristalsis. He may also be taking on excess air whilst drinking or eating so you could reposition his bowls. Some of us use raised feeders for taller dogs

I don't think noxious smells are normal at all, from my many borzois, collies, lurchers and now silken windhounds none have ever had permanent smelly wind. They may occasionally be whiffy after eating something disgusting on a walk, but that is thankfully a rare occurrence. I would try changing food, doesn't have to be raw, just try a different complete and try and stay away from ones with lots of sugar and artificial colours like bakers.

I occasionally had farting dogs when fed chicken but not since i primarily fed lamb and Fish based foods.
what is the main meat source in your greyhound food.
You do realise it is only called greyhound food so it can be VAT free, like others labelled working dog foods???

I would try a different food, the burgess is a colourful one and not great quality. I find my greyhounds do well or have done well at various times on arden grange, taste of the wild, and acana. There are always good deals on zooplus.com for taste of the wild too.
