Could I ask you raw feeders for advice, please?I realise bones are an important part of raw feeding, and I love the thought my dogs teeth will stay nice and clean. But,I have a problem with Jess my almost 4 year old.Every time I give them bones(lamb bones last night) she really enjoys chomping on hers, eats the lot,but then often spends the evening squeaking, its not really an in pain type of squeak, more an attention wanting squeak, but as she often eats grass after and seems unsettled it worries the hell out of me,and she was so bad last night i decided thats it,no more bones!Shes fine in every other way,and her poo was crumbly this morning, but thats fairly normal for these.Theres no similar problem with chicken wings.Getting cold feet, here, help, please!

Very bony meals can cause issues with some dogs as their stomachs have to work so much harder to process it and it can cause acid reflux or indigestion.  For that reason I tend to stick to poultry (necks, wings, carcass, portions).  This bone, even from big birds like turkey, is much softer and seems easier for my dogs to manage, and of course often has a little more meat on it.  You're still getting all the benefits of bone but without any of the drama.  One of my boys broke a tooth on a beef bone...

Mine are raw fed but I do feed a fish based kibble meal once a week (fish4dogs, salmon mousse, and/or sardines).  I find this works really well after a high bone meal - it just gently helps things along and calms the stomach!  A bonio or other biscuit in the evening can also help by adding a little dry bulk and reducing the acid gurgles.  Liver is great too if your dogs get a bit constipated after bone

I would perhaps give bigger bones so that she doesn't actually eat pieces of bone. This is what I do for one of mine that gulps down anything (including bones!)

Thankyou very much,I think I will stick to poultry or the bigger, marrow bones, none of them have issues with those, and  then maybe I wont worry so much, either! Thanks, both of you
