Was just wondering if anyone feeds their dog Lily's Kitchen and if so what their thoughts are on it?

Quite good, dog enjoyed it, nice stools.
Karen :)
I know it's really expensive :-( it has been recommended to me by a few people as they reckon it could help with my dog who has to have her anal glands expressed manually. If it works I don't mind paying for it.......

Have you tried just generally increasing the fibre content of their feed? About 3% fibre is usually enough or, if you don't want to change food, try adding a dessert spoon of bran to the meal.

Thanks, Yes I have but she won't eat anything with bran/weetabix added to it :-( plus her stools are not runny, they are firm so the vet believes it may be diet related. The vet is pushing for allergy tests which I don't really want to do as I have heard they are a waste of time. My other option is just to have them manually emptied every six weeks which is becoming more and more uncomfortable for her so I was looking at other foods to see if I can find something that works for her.
I have never used it but I would look at contacting smaller knowledgeable feed merchant or maufacturer. I use csj and I have found them very knowledgeable, I also buy my food from a private place and they are pretty down to earth with good advice (basically farmers!).
My vet has told me in the past that you only need to worry about glands if they become infected. For instance, mine went in and they emptied them as they were full but that was just a one off as they were there anyway. More recently they have not been an issue at all.

My picky princess ate it for a while and enjoyed it, but she went off it - it's pretty expensive too as you know.
Yeah, our vet has said its not the end of the world if we have to have them done manually, it's just that my dog had a pretty nasty infection in them in the summer which took a while to shift and my main aim is to stop it reoccurring. The vet said if we catch her as soon as she starts licking and biting at her bum and get them looked and and emptied if necessary then it will stop any infection occurring. But sometimes she will lick herself within a couple of weeks of them being done, but then stop. I'm thinking maybe she has emptied them herself then, but its knowing how long to leave it in case they do become infected.
She's currently on Arden Grange mini adult lamb and rice so i was thinking that maybe the rice is what is causing the problems, and I was interested in Lily's Kitchen as they do a grain free kibble. I might give it a go for a little while and if there is no improvement, switch back to Arden Grange as she seems to like it and has no other problems on it at all.

Simpsons do a lamb and Potato version, as well as other meat sources with potato.
Thanks, I'll look into that :-)

Dachlady, I would suggest you look into NatureDiet - which is another high quality wet food, but more affordable than Lily's Kitchen. It has a high bone content, meaning that poos are extremely firm (often coming out in bullets, sorry if TMI!), and this will help squeeze the anal glands and get them to express naturally when the dog defecates.
Thanks Rabid, will do.
Thanks everyone for all your advice.

I agree with rabid. I raw feed but something like nature diet if you dont fancy the raw route would be a good think to look at.
