Has anyone noticed the large hike in price of minced tripe? Albion has increased the price so much that I shall look for another supplier. Theirs is not smelly and not a lot of water when it thaws and I have been pleased with it for years so I am wondering if I shall change supplier or if they have all hiked the price. Does anyone use another source? What is the quality like? Thanks.

I was due to order next Friday and was shocked at the price increase! I did ask if it was temporary (as they said they were looking to change suppliers) but the answer I got seemed to say they didn't expect the prices to come down again. I too am currently sending emails left right and centre as I need to fill the freezer in the next 3 weeks! let me know where you end up going.

Prices have been steadily climbing over the last few months :(
Tripe prices will rise because more people are feeding raw.
I'm expecting all of the raw food to go up in price because of rising demand, like diesel went up when more people started buying diesel cars, hence I'm not advertising how good raw feeding is lol

Manifold vally meats are cheaper 55p per lb for tripe...however they do not have such a good delivery and it is £10 if included on a run and more if sent by courier. I wanted to order from them yesterday but for the quantity I needed it would have been £15 (2 boxes) to deliver as they do not do a run to Somerset yet...but they are hoping to in the future. (They also do some good variety) However It could work out quite a lot cheaper now Albion have increased the price. I am hoping after Christmas that Manifold will sort out a delivery run to cover my area (and possibly you to Grets !)

Received my order today from Albion but am going to research further before my next order. Anglian meat products seems marginally cheaper but I left them years ago when they started charging me more that I could buy it for in the shops. They only give good prices if you order enough to stock Pets At Home.

We paid about £7.50 for a box of 12 x 400g tripe AMP - was about £6.50 until this week :(

I pay 65p per lb from DAF.
I pay £15 for a 75lt trug full from a local abatoir. Not sure how much it weighs but I would guess about 100lbs. However I cut it up myself and put it into bags and freeze it. Messy and time consuming. I keep thinking about going back buying it already minced but looking at these prices I think I will stick with it

My butchers will sometimes give me whole sheep's stomach which Nando absolutely loves, if there was a way to feed it every day he would gladly eat it! He just doesn't get enough of it.
I cant remember the price actually, sorry, but landywoods might be worth a look, the lamb tripe i got last week is great quality, not sloppy at all.

Is there anyone you could share an order with in your area as I know Albion and others when bulk buying drop their prices. What about the Dog Food Company, I know others go have used them and state very good quality and they always appear to come up cheaper than most, I think only issue was and don't know if still is getting hold of them for an order over the phone..

I've just spoken to Albion to make my usual fortnightly order. I was told that the minced turkey has gone up from £11.35 per box (24 x 400g bricks), to a whopping £19.35 per box! The pure lamb is now the same price. And we always order at least their minimum amount of 68kg. I'm gobsmacked!

that's the sort of price rise I was talking about! A small increase I can take but the tripe was £6 a box more and I wanted 6 of them. You would never go into a supermarket and accept 30% increases would you?

has the turkey maybe gone up because of the high demand of turkey during this time of year?
I get my tripe from a friend who buys in bulk and i just get a box of them when i am visiting, i think the wholesaler is called Blendbetter? Couldnt give you prices though, i pay the entries for our dogs in partnership (which i dont mind as they live with me plus she gave me the dogs i didnt have to pay for them) but she feels better giving me tripe as some sort of payment lol

Sounds possible though I was told today that it's because the supplier can sell it abroad as fit for human consumption so Albion have to match the price. Then they have to pass it on to their customers.

i was told the same thing about my tripe....what human eats green tripe?

they don't eat it green, but certainly do once ti's cleaned, very popular in Poland (yuk) where it is made into a soupy stew, quite highly seasoned.
With the huge influx of former Eastern Europeans in the UK, (the ex pat Polish community is huge compared to what it was in my childhood) maybe they are finding more demand in the human sector, ditto pigs heads for brawn etc.
It's the same with the chefs making breast of Lamb, Oxtail and other 'cheap' cuts fashionable, the prices have gone way up.

Tripe kept my father alive in the early 1960s - he had cancer and the radiotherapy meant that he could swallow very little - he lived on tripe stew :)

fair enough I know people DO eat tripe but I assumed the dog's tripe was different. Perhaps it's not! I still find that reason strange for such a hike in the prices.
> fair enough I know people DO eat tripe but I assumed the dog's tripe was different.
I did too - the only kind of tripe I know is eaten by people is Honeycomb tripe, and that comes from only one of the cow's 4 stomachs, the Reticulum. (Named after a ladies' handbag of the same shape and pattern, allegedly).
The other stomachs are the Rumen, Omasum and Abomasum. I wasn't aware that any of those were sold for human consumption, even after bleaching.
I've never seen sheep tripe on sale for humans either, though some of it is used to contain genuine haggis.
Pigs must have stomachs, so must Deer... wonder what happens to them?
Have used dog food company for approx 2 years,Did have a small problem contacting them at first, now I get a email every 4 weeks asking if I need a delivery that week.So now no problem .
I asked if they did a delivery to Hertfordshire they charge me £5 I get approx 60/70 packs of green tripe +2/3 boxes of chicken wings .thats 120/140 lbs tripe
30/45 of wings so for a fiver I think thats cheap .

that's one of the places I tried but they don't come to Wales. Their prices looked very good to be honest.

I use albion and inspite of price rises still find them competitive for larger quantities. I believe a lot of companies will either have trouble soucing a full range of meats and or have difficulties in keeping prices down as the industry as a whole is getting. More expensive. Meats esp tripe and carcasses going for human consumption being one reason. I am sorry to find it is getting that much more expensive to feed raw.
I am hoping to beable to carry on in spite of this as at the moment with oh out of work its becoming very hard. I really don't want to return to kibble

It wouldn't come to that Chris, I could send meat hampers as I do pretty well from the butchers!

thanks Josh :)

My cousin has got me some free bits of pig and some offal today from a farmer whose land he is working from!

you do really well where you are Josh

I just got the bag of bones from the farmer, one of them I am not sure what animal it was from but it was like a dinosaur bone! The rest of them were really good though and will be two meals for Nando, for free! I do well but it's from so many different places that it can be quite a hassle and to get a month's worth I'd probably spend as much as DAF.
