Has anyone come across this and what are your views? What is the significance of the 3-10 month old puppy sample, can it not be used on older dogs? I will add that my dogs are entire unless castration is required (e.g. retained testicle).

Do some internet searching and you will find chemical castration is not as new as that article makes it appear to be.  I'm sorry, I did not keep links when I looked into it but I believe it was banned in most of N. America.  I asked about it and was told it was not available in Canada.  I believe it can be used on older dogs and is in some third world countries where population control is the main goal.

For me, if I neuter I want the testes gone.  This coming from someone living in a place where neutering is the norm.  Here many dog parks do not allow intact dogs, who would believe me if the testes, somewhat shrunken I believe,  are still there?

This chemical castration method is pretty new to pet dogs - it renders them infertile, permanently.

Temporary chemical castration has been around a long time, with Tardak and Suprelorin.

Dogs neutered using this method get an N tattooed on their belly so it should be pretty simple to demonstrate to people that your dog IS neutered, I wouldnt consider that a reason to discount this method of neutering.

Well I guess it depends on what you deem recent.  The link shows it's been around for nearly 10 years in the form at the link.  And I see in the link that it is contraindicated in cases of cryptorchidism.

LOL, I can just see myself rolling my boisterous Lab onto his back to show someone a tattoo.  Nope.

Tardak and Suprelorin STILL aren't here in Canada but I think I read may be coming soon.  Maybe they are here now, I haven't been concerned with this for some time and Oban is still intact and now 5 years old.  It's just I did read about it so please search more about it.  :)

Pretty sure it has been used in Zoos, as of course it won't interfere with natural behaviour and hormones but will stop reproduction.

Never heard of this before, then it comes up 3 times in 1 week!  First was recomended as a a possible treatment for a couple of toy dogs who are starting to fight now the youngest has outgrown his puppyhood - suggested as a method of finding out if Neutering itself would be effective, so guess this vet meant the non permanent option.  Then yesterday someone on a FB page considering it to calm a dog down, and now here.  Still don't know what to think about it.

No, me neither gwen--I'm not a fan of neutering per se but I realise there are situations where perhaps a non-surgical option may be more appropriate. I'd be concerned about long term effects on animal health, but I haven't found anything so far.

Just found this, gives some stats and the video is worth watching.  Not sure of the date of this video but it looks like it is not banned in all of N. America.  It was my Vet who told me it was.  My Vet supports my keeping Oban intact so I find it hard to believe he deliberately missled me.
