Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Merely an observation on my part re critiques

I don't know if you have found this in any of your breed/s or not.
I'm not sure if it's down to the papers but I hold my own opinions on this

How quickly do critiques end up in the papers after a show when an all rounder has judged compared to a breed specialist??
How soon after said show should critiques been submitted to one of the papers?

I maybe the only one seeing a pattern on this but not sure whether I'm barking up the wrong tree or not!!

A judge has a month to submit to one of the weekly papers.

So maybe judge A takes a month to submit & judge B submits the day after they judge, they could both appear in the same weeks paper.
I was recently waiting for a judges crit on my old boy &  the judge submitted to both, at the same time but it appeared in DW then took a further 2 weeks to appear in OD.

With Championship shows - well at least some if the critique is sent within a couple of days it appears the following week.

If the critique from any judge has not appeared after 3 months from the show then the KC should be informed.  From submitting critiques myself, and also friends who have submitted in the past OD are reasonably quick at publishing them, say the next week or two after receiving them.  DW though sometimes take forever.  We have an all rounder who has judged us several times over the past 10 years and not once has a critiqued appeared in either paper.

I believe it was either last week or the week before I noticed a crit from Crufts..only 6 & nearly 7 months after the show, long time to know what the judged liked about a dog!

Normally the dog papers will not accept late critiques but they will sometimes make an exception if the reason for the delay is valid, such as the judge being sent to hospital of the non-delivery of the mail or e-mail but I agree that it should not take 6 months for a judge to realise that their critique has not been published and ask the paper why.

But at least it's better than never doing it at all :-(

I have noticed the late printing of Crufts critiques, is this a case of the papers choosing to print them late or the judges failing to submit them on time?

There is one judge I've been under twice as I think they are very fair. The problem is no critique has ever been printed and I have chased them.. This judge I've very rarely seen any critiques published from them and they judge a fair bit.... I have complained to show secretaries on this also. Problem is I do like this judges judging so will probably still go under them again, lol

I am still waiting for critiques from many a show but I won't hold my breath!!

It is frustrating isn't it. I think we've been lucky with champ shows, but there's several open show critiques we've missed out on over the years. There's nothing much you can do to insist on those being sent in, if I recall correctly it's only Club shows and Champ shows that the judge HAS to submit a critique. But those of us without the top dogs that still get thrilled at a First at an open show would appreciate knowing what the judge thought of our dog too!

Even then club shows and ch shows fail to always be submitted: I have noticed some club show results end up in club magazines or online but never to be seen in the papers.... If not part of the club you miss out :-(
