I bought my puppy home at 10 weeks old with a perfect bite now at 4 and a half months she has an undershot mouth. She still has her puppy teeth, will this right itself when her adult teeth come through or is what I see now what I'm going to get? I'm gutted!

So her top jaw is smaller than her bottom exposing the front teeth? It is the jaw bone groth that is the problem not the teeth as such. Is it a breed prone to underbites?

It will depend on the breed, how much deficit and how much more growth the muzzle has to make before maturity.

In my breed dachsies the muzzle has alot of growing to do and there are periods when the top jaw is longer then the bottom catches up[never had an undershot bite as yet] and this continues till fully mature whilst you pray it end up as a perfect scissor bite when they are done growing.

Thanks Rhona
She does have a very small muzzle at the moment, hoping and praying it will grow. its is just so agonizing that she had a perfect bite as a young puppy. Oh yes she's a cocker spaniel.

I had cockers as a child and adult and the bitches have shorter muzzles than the dogs, have you let the breeder know, they may know if other pups in the litter have got problems or if there have been past litters that have come right. If the pup was bought as show/breed potential and the bite stays off the breeder may give you a refund of some of your purchase price, depends on what type of breeder they are.

It is awful when things go wrong, my first litter everyone was fine at 12 weeks old when the bigger bitch pup went to her dams breeder, at 5 months old her bite went awry but came back in line by 8 months old, went on to have 11 pups with no bite problems, her sister who stayed here started having problems at 4 months old and ended up with an over bite so not bred from, their brother is fine. Next litter same dam different sire 4 males and no problems with any of them.

Keep us posted.
