My hubby just got this from a friend so planning on cutting it up, sitting in my fridge at the moment lol How long should I freeze it and how much should I give them at a feeding?
We will get more trimmings of the deer but he has it hanging at the moment and has not cut what he wants for himself as of yet.
I would treat it as for any other heart and lung just a small amount a couple of times aweek until you know it is ok with teh dogs. I have just discoverd venison is a bit rich for little one so will only give small amounts occasionally like liver. Hope that helps and isnt too vague. basically as all dogs are different I use trial and error when gving new stuff and give small amounts first
I no their food has everything in it. Yesterday I gave them 2 chicken gizzards Added in and some peas & strawberries, oh did they enjoy that. Can't wait to start feeding the deer.
How long you should freeze for depends on whether you have domestic or commercial freezers and how low they go. Re how much to feed depends on size, breed, age and activity of dog. It is a lean meat so perhaps treat as cuts of more familiar species that you already feed.
Just seen you FEED STRAWBERRIES????? My guys are packing their bags.....WHERE ARE YOU? I had various canes and hanging baskets of strawberries and if I had half a dozen this year I've been lucky.....the rest have gone to my canine friends! :)
My crew love strawberries and also blackberries . They pick their own blackberries as we go round the fields, I pick loads and freeze them so the dogs can have some mixed in with their meat and biscuit in the winter months
