My nearly 5 month old puppy is whining a lot when she's playing with toys etc is it possibly her teeth are hurting or am I just being silly

No this is peak teething time.

Mine is chewing everything in sight, got toothmarks on several skirtings etc, so have to get the bitter spray out.

Try teething gel. I found it really helped.

Only word I can describe our puppy at the moment is "gnawing", sometimes for half an hour at a time!  Her current favourite item is a hoof I bought at Richmond, it stinks but she loves it and (touch wood) hasn't chewed anything she isn't allowed too (touch wood again, eeeek).  I have only so far found one baby tooth, she has probably swallowed or lost in the rug which in turn is hoovered daily the rest.

Be very careful it doesn't contain the sweetener Zylitol which is lethal to dogs.

This is the ideal time for the frozen old tea towels, 3 allows for swapping[ you can also use a rope toy]

Roll up length wise and knot at either end, wet under the tap, wring out and put in freezer till frozen, give to pup till defrosted then swap for a fresh one, there isn't enough water to damage any floor covering, the cold soothes their gums and it isn't hard enough to damage the new teeth.

Are bones ok to give her or would they make things worse.  This is worse than when my children were teething lol I seemed to know what to do then now I'm like a fish out of water it's so funny.  Maybe it's because I spend more time with this puppy as children are grown up and I'm noticing more, do hope that doesn't sound like I neglected the others I had in the past things have just changed so much and I'm older.  I just want to do whatever I can to make things easier for her and tea towels were bought and tried out - it might have been rhodach that suggested it before- so they are now in and out of freezer-brilliant idea.

Large bones are great to help the loose teeth out. :-)

Oh Barbara!  That brings back memeories.   My 14 year old Beardie chewed all around the kitchen door frame as a pupster.  I coated it with Colman's english mustard.  She would salivate while licking it off!  :-)  :-)
