Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Could this be due to their diet?

Been on raw now since August I believe- the dogs love it and look great. My oldest soon to be 13 in February Junior I noticed which looked like a bone on the floor picked it up to see its actually a tooth. Looked at all their teeth and realized Junior's tooth broke. The food they eat is ground up already meat with bones, organs, ect and others added in. What could be causing his teeth to crack in half like that? Its one of the front or side teeth. He has already had 11 teeth pulled out- so not much left in his poor lil mouth. He still seems very happy in himself and eats fine- the only thing he/they have had that they had to chew was a chicken neck besides the lamb shank/marrow bone in aug & Sept.

Thank you

He could have cracked it earlier and has just fallen out. I learned the hard way about marrow bones as whisper has lost the top of one of his canines due to that. Junior possibly has weekend teeth as you said he has lost 11 previously. I would just take care he gets enough bone but nothing too hard. Chicken should be fine

It may just be age related that he is naturally losing his teeth, if his bite is off then this can be accelerated.

If there is no solid bone in his food then that won't have caused the broken tooth, just be aware that the remaining bit of tooth may have exposed nerve or be a route for infection and an abscess inhis gum.

All there food has ground bone in it- but will def keep and eye on his mouth and watch for any signs of redness, inflamed
and soreness and how he eats.
It looks like it pretty much broke off down to the gum- haven't been able to see where the other one went missing as its hard to
pry his mouth open- I stopped brushing his teeth in case he is sore really don't want to irritate it.
He has been chewing on Nylon bones so that may have done it- he likes to chew, plus plays tug a war with Moose.
