I'm trying to introduce the dremel for my dog's nails. So far he has seemed completely at ease with the whole process, but I'm getting stressed. It took ages for me to work out how to fit the sanding attachment as the instructions are awful.

Now my problem is the direction of sanding. Should I be holding the dremel in my right hand? That way the sanding direction seems to be coming up the way? I had assumed it should be down the way, but when I tried sanding my own finger experimentally, it didn't go well if held in the left hand.

I agree the instructions are dreadful!
Sorry but I really don't understand your description, so I'm not much help but when I use it I don't give it much thought, I just hold the grinding thing to the end of the nail and let it do its job! You'll soon get the knack!

Perhaps it is designed for right hand users...like you can buy right & left handed scissors?? I have to admit I am right handed so hold the Dremmel in my right had with the paw in my left hand.
I should think most items like this are designed to turn clockwise, which the Dremmel does. Although even though I used mine today, I dont take much notice aslong as it does the job.

that's interesting, I have one and seem to be making pretty slow progress, but I didn't twig that it might be anything to do with being left-handed.

I have a go with it and by the time the dogs have had enough they don't argue if I get the guillotine clippers out to finish the job :-)

It's round so probably suitable for both hands.
I introduced one to my puppy with loads of treats to keep her attention off the actual sanding.
As long as her mouth are full she is happy and does not pay much attention to it.

My olny proble are changeable tips. I lost spare ones and cant find supplier here in uk.

Sorry, I didn't explan it well. I don't really care what hand I hold it in.

What I meant was that when I hold the dremel in my right hand, if I wasn't holding the nail, the sander would push the nail upwards. Is this the right direction for grinding down the nail?

I'm now assuming that as most people are holding it in their right hand....which means the nail would be pushed up.....that is correct.

JAY15 - I'm now thinking that if you are holding it in your left hand, it will be grinding down the way, which probably isn't effective.

Yes, that's how I use it. You're grinding at the nail from underneath, as they would naturally wear.

I think I made an a## of myself lol.

Thank you JAY15

I bought more sanders in B&Q...thats the only ones I need :)

Yes, you only need the sandpaper rings; they're said to be the only safe ones, because the stones get the nails far too hot and can cause pain.

Could not believe it when I opened up this link,I spent 2 hours last night trying to source a dremel,I got so confused,do I go for the basic one approx £30 or the all singing, dancing ,bells on one approx £60-£70.would I need all the bits that comes with the most expensive one
Also were is the best place to get from ,do they sell them locally or from ebay .

All you need to do the dogs' nails is this sanding attachment. Anything else is a bonus if you do a lot of DIY.

Thank you Jeangenie, will go to B&Q & have a look ,theirs are selling at £32+.Plus if you can get replacement ends from them that's a bonus.

You can get them on ebay too

Thanks for that jeangenie, I didn't realise. I have been using the stone ones and although my dogs seem fine with it, I will switch to the sandpaper rings.
