Why have the border officials allowed this consignment of puppies to continue their journey onto LLanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales with no certainty that the vaccine administered will protect the puppies or any others that may come into contact with them both dog and human from rabies, if it is later found the vaccine has not been preventative of this disease.
The decision was wrong these puppies have gone to a dealer they will be for sale either by this or another dealer or in a pet shop soon. Would you feel safe bringing one of these puppies into your home, think about it seriously? If you feel this is wrong then please write to your MP and Carmarthenshire Council Animal Health
who's area these puppies are now in.

How could no laws be broken, the Rabies vaccines are not supposed to be given and are not licensed to be given before 3 months of age, and dogs cannot come into UK until 3 weeks after the vaccine is given with pet passport.

I know some EU countries allow puppies from other low risk/safe countries (Eu and lsited 3rd countries), to come in before they are required to be vaccinated, as I have exported puppies under 12 weeks, but the UK does not allow this, which is why the earliest we can bring a puppy in is 16 weeks.?????.

And who came up with the £1000 price tags for this motley assortment, when well bred puppies from health tested parents of excellent pedigrees in most breeds are well under this figure, and unpapered ones half that?.

DEFRA have changed the rules since I brought Merc into UK in January, they now say it's down to the vaccine manufacturer, a lot say it's ok to give it at 8 weeks, bringing forward the age pups can come into UK to 11 weeks.

Not quite right; the manufacturers (and the law) say that if a rabies vaccine is given before 3 months there must be a second one given at or after 3 months, and the three week wait begins from when the second injection is given. ("* Primary vaccination may be administered at an earlier age (minimum in dogs and cats of 4 weeks of age), but then a repeat vaccination must be given at the age of 3 months.")

"If the vaccination is in two parts the 21 day wait will be from the date of the second vaccination."

The entry age remains the same, and animals under three months of age are not allowed to enter the UK.

Defra should be jumping on this one and getting this trafficking stopped. Ask Jeangenie states, the rabies vaccination should not given before 3 months and then there is the 3 week wait. Absolutely disgusting that these poor pups have been vaccinated so early as technically it must have been given at 5 weeks of age to be able to allow then into UK at 8 weeks. How do our authorities allow this?

The problem is that paperwork is checked at the port in France etc, and they simply check the dates tally on the passport, but don't make sure the dates tally with the obvious age of the puppies (though a member of the general public may not be able to recognise the difference between a 16 week puppy and one younger.

By 16 weeks if the baby teeth are not being lost then they will be extremely gappy and small looking.

Most often the checking staff do no actually handle the animal asking the owner to scan and they just check chip against paperwork.

Where the authorities should stop them is at Dover, put them in Quarantine and charge the traffickers the quarantine fees will soon make them find it unprofitable.

With these particular pups if it is obvious they re under 16 weeks of age then they should go into Quarantine as they are here ILLEGALLY!!!!

Of course nothing to stop them bringing in pups that are over 16 weeks,b but they have lost most of their cuteness factor, and of course 8 - 16 weeks of food usually about half as much again as an adult eats will seriously impact on breeders and traffickers profit margins :)

Yes as the rules are the strictest this side of the channel then any inspection should be carried out here properly, not just a quick glance at the paperwork, the pups from a distance and then allowed on their way.

To be selling the pups in the the port carpark is obvious that things are being done that are not quite right. The destination for these pups should also be held to account for such practices, are they licenced to be caring for and selling pups from their premises, this van load has been highlighted so surely further puppies going there will be flagged up on the port authority system.

Unfortunately not enough puppy buyers will have seen this article to put them off buying pups from anywhere other than the breeders.

It is on quite  number of anti puppy farming campaigning groups including my own. Please pass the link of the newspaper article on as many message boards, Facebook pages as possible in the hope that it will be seen by more people.

there is a person that i know has tried desperatly to get this stopped.

the person tried to stop it by getting in touch with DEFRA, customs, trading standards and put it on the fb site that some people where buying in pregnant dogs and selling them.

if they had already sold the pregnant dog you where after they could get another one into the country in three days for you from romania, latvia, hungary, etc.

the person had to stop trying to get authorities to listen and withdraw from fb, due to threats to their family,
and their own dogs from people in the breed that they where trying to help, the police have been informed and the emails have been kept by the police.

such a sad state of affairs, but nothing will be done .

can i just say brainless that french bulldog pups with kc papers go anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000  and i have seen unpapered frenchie for 900  so they will of got the price right for the frenchies,
pugs are about 1,000 for papered and 700 for non papered pups so you can see why they are let into the country

That's about what 3 well bred (DNA, Hip eye tested and probably champion parents) pups would cost in my breed.

I was talking the average pedigree dog breeds.  Certainly £700 plus or minus £50 in my breed.  Looking on the KC and petplan site most breeds sell for around £500 - £700 with decent breeding.

It is rather unfortunate that a minority of breeds carry a huge price tag, which makes them ripe for attracting exploiters.

Why were these poor puppies allowed to continue past the port ? So many issues here aside from the cruelty these little ones have endured. Every time I cross the channel with my dogs we are subjected to intense scrutiny of passports and timing of vet appointments. Refusal of entry because of a small oversight is my great fear. Yet, these criminals are allowed to import puppies with highly dubious vaccination and health status. It is just a question of time before we have rabies here in the UK. All my guys are vaccinated against rabies regardless of whether I intend to travel to Europe with them. And yet again we have the issue of the British public being prepared to buy puppies from dealers and dodgy outlets just to save a bit of money. Demand drives this cruel trade. Why don't the KC bang the drum a bit louder and help us educate the puppy buying public and warn them against this trade ? Why are scrupulous and responsible breeders so derided and disparaged ? Why aren't Defra more of a presence at the ferry ports , checking trucks and vans from suspect countries rather than innocent motorists with a couple of pets on board ? I despair !
