Topic Dog Boards / Showing / 2nd in the ring...
- By tombaker [gb] Date 18.10.12 22:54 UTC
So I've been showing for nearly a year now and at Midland Counties we're second in the ring not before 12.30. I've not had any experience of this, but what is the normal practice? Should I still arrive for 9am judging and get all my shopping in before then judging.

Not all breeds can have a ring of their own & breeds with fewer entries share rings. Sometimes there has been 3 or 4 breeds in one ring. At least you have a 'not before' judging time which isnt always stated. It would be unlikely to start your breed before this time(as its been stated). It's entirely your choice if you get there at 9 & shop first...it does quite a good idea, as you can then concentrate on your breed.

Depends on your dog. Some get bored being at the show too long, others need time to settle. Our judging isn't until 1.15 (and what with the clocks changing, that's really 2.15! Nice lay in!) so I plan to arrive about noon as the only dog I have entered likes a bit of time to settle down before going in the ring.

There is no 'have to be in by time' in the schedule so literally means as it says you won't be in the ring before that time so entirely up to you if you want to get there earlier but if we are second or even third in the ring then I don't tend to get there for the days judging start but as I like to have a look around I tend to get in a good hour before my judging then go home afterwards, the stalls are still open later on so you can always go round last thing, I tend to avoid the normal judging start as you don't get as much traffic plus with a later start some will have already come and gone you tend to get a closer parking spot.

I'm confused, surely the clocks go back which means it is 12.15 not 2.15
- By mcmanigan773 [gb] Date 19.10.12 13:33 UTC
Clocks do go back yes
- By Goldmali Date 19.10.12 13:38 UTC
Yes clocks go back so that gives us an extra hour during the night which means it's equal to 2.15.

just be aware that if you leave later in the day the journey could take longer than expected due to traffic we did this one year at midland the journey was awful the turn in to the showground took nearly 20 mins due to traffic we now just leave the normal time as if first in ring and shop first and groom dogs and relax

Yes, spring forward fall back is the saying I know. :-)

Thats what I was conscious of. I live over three hours away. So would normally set off at 5 for a 9am judging. Thinking of setting off at 6 to get there for 930. We're there on a friday, so will still have to deal with commuter traffic on the A1.

Bloody good job I am not going anywhere on Sunday - only problem is the dogs take a long while to stop getting me up an hour early.

What day are the clocks changing, as in date on Saturday into a Sunday.. Ta x
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 20.10.12 07:07 UTC
They officially change at about 2am on Sunday (which makes it then 1am) but it's usual to change you clock the night before. Or forget and be everywhere an hour earlier than you need!
