I am a new Champdogs member and need advice on whether I will be able to show my lovely Patterdale. I rescued him 6 months ago when he was 6 months old so have no papers. He was wormed and healthy and has now grown into a very handsome lad. A few Patterdale enthusiasts we have met along the way tell me I should think of showing him as he is a fine specimin. I am in regualr contact with his sister from the same litter who is also healthy and well. My dog is pure black, wire haired, playful and friendly with people and other dogs. His original owner has been breeding Patterdales for some time but circumstances and life got on top of him and he needed to get rid of his dogs. I would like to just see how he might fair in a show and try and enjoy meeting up with other Patterdale owners....I really have grown to appreciate the breed, the different types of Patterdales and the characters they can be. I am by no means planning on heading for Crufts but I would like my boy to be appreciated by others and for him to enjoy some attention from experts in the field.
Any advice welcome
Most country fairs have a working terrier show as one of the attractions - and there will almost certainly be classes for Patterdales. You just turn up and enter on the day, don't need any registration papers. You can also enter Companion Shows.
You can find working terrier shows advertised in the Countryman's Weekly. There aren't so many over the winter, though - it's more of a summer activity
