You were all very helpful to me when I was discussing my option pre the arrival of my pup regarding when I had to go back to work so thought i'd share an update.

I took over a month off after he arrived and since my return to work he has been going to daycare a couple of times a week when my partner or I are both at work at the same time. I'm chuffed with how well it's worked out, he is by himself with the woman except for one day where he shares with a jack russell. He bounds up the road to get to the daycare house and wags his tail furiously when she opens the door. She sends me photos and videos of him when he is there and not only does he enjoy playing in the garden and a little walk with her......he sleeps in her bed! haha! Spoiled pup! :)

I would take this one-on-one option over a 'real' daycare, even in a specially designed building, with 20 dogs and a few members of staff. Particularly for a pup who could be scared by another dog etc. He turns 6 months soon and is getting on wonderfully, doesn't miss me remotely when i drop him off though thankfully he is happy to see me when i collect him!LOL. I must also add that i was surprised to hear one of his littermates spends a few 9 hour days alone (with dog company). I think I would come home to an unhappy pup and a ruined house. The longest my adults are left is about 6 hours and they are too lazy, adult greyhounds who are happy to see the back of us and take over the sofa.

It sounds like a fantastic situation - how did you find this woman?  I don't think she can make much money from daycare if she only has one pup most of the time.

I used to do one-to-one day care when I lived in Edinburgh, I charged £10 a day, but that was about 15 years ago.
It was a brilliant solution for me and my GSD Louie, he got a friend for the day, and I got to walk with two dogs, and got paid for doing it.

She was made redundant from her job two years ago and opened this business afterwards with the help of a grant/mentor/start your own business type scheme. She also takes home boarding overnight which is a lot more expensive than daycare so maybe that's where the money comes from? I think with these sort of start your own business scheme she is given a paid allowance anyway so this subsidises that, or vice versa? Don't know really, but it's a great set up for me. It costs 15 euro per day for the daycare about 30 p.n for home boarding. She also does walking and will drop to local houses for an hour to feed cats etc.

Anyway, I spoke too soon as yesterday she said the jrt was too aggressive with the pup and she was uncomfortable with the situation and can't get rid of the jrt obviously as he's been coming since she opened. As he only comes Wednesdays, that means Wednesdays are now out for my pup. She was very apologetic but i appreciate her concerns and don't want my boy in a risky situation anyway. Unfortunately the one day my partner and I cannot be flexible about workwise is Wednesday, at least for the next two months, so we are stuck. The house is empty from 10 - 5 (includes travel time, literally he leaves at 10, i reappear by 5, sometimes 4.45). She has said that she can pop over and walk him for 20 minutes, cuddle for ten etc, and walk my other pair for 30 so we may need to think of something like that.

I think that sounds fine for a 6 month old pup - he's not a baby anymore.  The only issue is getting him used to being left, if he's not used to it because he's always been going to the sitter.  You might want to start practising some 'alone time' each day in the evenings, before next Weds.

You are lucky to find a good dog sitter. I thought I had find one and my boy like going there. But after the first time going the secong time he went she informed me that she was just letting him out but I ask her to keep him on the lead until he got into the field. The last time he went she had took in a stay staffie that had attack someone. My boy dose not like them looky he was out the way she let the staffie out and it went stray for me and attack my arm. So he has not been back there so at the moment I am trying to find someone too look after him.
