We are having a very bizarre experience and wondered if anyone had experienced similar.... Medium sized gundog had 7 pups last night all fine and was finished at around 11.30pm, settled down for the night etc and has be fine all day today, been out to the garden and eating etc then at about 6.15pm (after eating tea) she then became a bit unsettled and started nesting again, I nipped upstairs for 2 minutes while mum watched her from the doorway and she had another girl - so this is 19 hours after the last one was born! I have just rung Mum now and she has had another boy, all perfectly fine. We think it is amazing that they can be so far apart! Is this quite rare?

We were convinced she was smaller than last time and was going to have 6 or 7.... we now have 9 and possibly not finished!!

I have known a live pup born 24 hours after the bitch had a C section (not mine), personally I have only had dead whelps a day later.

Longest gap between last live whelp and what I and vet had thought was last was 8 hours.

My girl did something every similar on her last litter. She had 5 live pups within 6 hrs , 4 hours later a dead pup then nothing she got up played in the garden, ate drank ect. Been brilliant mum 8 hrs later from the dead pup she started getting restless and give birth to 2 live pups,

We took her to the vet to get an xray to check for anymore pups

She had one more girl late last night, unfortunately dead. My Mum did all she could to try and get her going but it was not meant to be. Poor Macey was very upset but a lot brighter this morning and being a great Mum to her brood of 9! Seems a lot brighter and more settled this morning. She has had a tough time of it poor girl.

Yes I have heard on a rare occassion of pups being born up to 3 days post original whelping but they have all been dead, the placentas probably seperated and there wasn't enough hormones to keep the contractions going during the labour, the pups suckling have helped those contractions move them down the poles of the uterus and out, otherwise there may have been a really nasty infection, antibiotics were given when the gap was more than 12hours.

I hope that things go fine from now on.

My poor Myka had three 7 live and 3 stillborn, and then on the third day was having contractions, and was restless.

She passed a very large dead pup about 36 hours after the last previous pup.

Decided after such a hard whelping to spay her after rearing the pups, meant keeping a pup a year sooner than planned.
