Would you enter a minor puppy in junior if there was no other option at an open show, or would you not enter at all?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 30.09.12 20:48 UTC
Sure no problem, if your the highest place puppy you would still be BPIB and be eligible for puppy group.

Definately enter, no hesitation.

thanks Brainless and nursey...that helps a lot!

yep and more than likely they'll do a BPIB and you never know could go onto BPIS :)

Definitely and I expect that you'll often find yourself in with other puppies :)  In my breed we almost never have puppy classes at open shows and if we're lucky enough to be given two classes it's usually Grad and Open

So--changing the focus here--would you enter a minor puppy at a champ show that only offered a puppy class?
- By suejaw Date 30.09.12 21:43 UTC
Done it plenty of times, you'll find many puppies in the junior class as others have said they have to declare a BPIB, unless they withold.. :-)

Indeed I would, don't find many breeds put on minor puppy classes at ch shows.. If no minor puppy then yes puppy it would be :-) I did both at one show and got placed 2nd in both classes, so you just never know x

For sure, and I think it's expected given that in many breeds you simply don't get minor puppy classes scheduled

...even at your breed club show, when all classes are normally scheduled, you'll usually find minor puppies entered in both :)

Like dogs a babe, in my main breed we'd be lucky to get a Junior class at open shows and puppy is virtually unheard of -it's normally PG and Open so pups go in PG. Likewise it's extremely rare for us to get a Minor Puppy class at championship shows (not even the breed shows), I can only think of one. It makes no difference. There's even the odd open show with just the one class which then obviously is Open.

Okay then, would you place a dog into a higher class to avoid another dog in your class. So put a Junior into PG?
- By tooolz Date 30.09.12 22:47 UTC
Depends how good the puppy is. I like mine to come out winning.
I hate the critique... "just beaten on maturity"

If there was a littermate in the lower class then I'd put the more mature/experienced in PG.
- By tombaker [gb] Date 30.09.12 23:43 UTC
Maturity-wise both dogs are very similar, but the other one has a more "experienced" handler ;)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 30.09.12 23:45 UTC
Then the one with the more experienced handler would be better in the higher class.
