My oldest dog who is 8yrs has lost his bark,he was quite vocal when going for a run in the car or at feedtimes, now there's complete silence. He did have an ear infection which was treated with A/B's cleaner and drops, but I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any light on why this has happened?I am booking an appointment with our vet in the morning.

Hmm, I know mine do bark with less gusto as they age. Its a similar thing with cats, their meowing gets fainter but I would not be expecting this at 8. Wouldn't hurt to get him checked over.

Yes, mine generally get noisier with age! I can always tell my hubby that they may go quieter with age, then he might not strangle the puppy!

Thank you,I can say,he is now back to being vocal again, either he's bumped his throat or our young pup has got got hold him whilst playing, what a relief!!
