Hi there, my dogs puppies are 3weeks old, and mum is hardly feeding, when is the best time to start weaning them and what the best food to start them on.

Now, and the puppy food the mother has been eating soaked is the easiest.  I always add puppy milk to make it into a gruel.

It may seem that she is feeding less, but in fact this is the peak lactation period when she is producing most milk and she should be fed a high quality diet.

My girl on her last litter was eating 5 times her normal amount, plus goats milk eggs etc.

Are they gaining weight in increasing amounts?

If she is being reluctant to feed them, ti could be their claws need cutting, you should have been doing this each week from about a week old.

Yeah she has been eating loads, along with the puppy food, ive been also giving her poached fish in goats milk and alsnd the eggs, the pups are all a good weight, at 2 weeks they there over a 1k and one of the femalerg who is the biggest was 1.54 k the vet was amazed lol. I use jwb so would the jwb puppy food mashed up be ok then? And yeah the puppy claws get clipped.

Nothing wrong with that as it's your puppy food of choice.

By the time mine are 4 weeks I do add other foods to one of their meals, like minced meat, tripe, Scrambled egg, etc, pretty much the extras Mum has been on.

This is primarily to get pups used to a variety of foodstuffs they may encounter once in their new homes, though you should give the new owners enough of the JWB puppy to last each of them a week or two so that pups don't experience a sudden change in food at such a vulnerable time as changing homes.

Pups will need to be on at least 4 meals a day plus feed from Mum as often as she wants.  She should be allowed free access to them (apart from when you feed them, so she doesn't scoff their food), but should be able to get away from them too.

Hi. I reared my first litter on JWB & they loved it.
I soaked it in boiling water & then used a hand blender to get it the right consistency for the puppies to lap it.

I agree with everything above. I also give my babies a taste of scrambled egg, tuna, weetabix, rice pudding, all kinds of things to give their little tummys an experience of lots of different things.
Puppy packs are great to send off to the new homes. JWB used to provide them, I don't know if they still do as I changed food some time ago.
