As far as I am aware (but I am sure someone will tell me different) they are not tested for anything. Though I know of a bitch that had Legges Perth disease.

Hello there..
I have a little male dog...he is 1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 Iggy....he is very sweet and lovable...wants to please me more than anything. He is will be 2 yrs old March 2006. Before he was even 1 year old, PeeWee had to have surgery on his  R hip because of Legges - Perth disease. He still limps but he isn't in pain any more the way he was prior to surgery.
My frustration was that when I kept taking him to our regular vets because I KNEW something was wrong with him, the vets just gave him rimadyl over and over. Finally in December 2004 I was told not to bring him back until March; that I was just expecting him to get well too fast..
Well, while in Denton, Texas visiting my daughter, she had me take him to her vet who immediately knew what was wrong. he told me just what to look for once the x-rays were done and sure enough..there was the problem. He then contacted a specialist who did PW's surgery 3 days later. The surgery was done Jan. 12, 2005 !! Gee, if I had waited until March per other vets requests, my little boy would have had to suffer even longer...and at that I am not sure the vets would have recognized his problem !!
I encourage everyone to hang in there and keep seeking answers when their little pet is hurting. I am so glad I did !!

Take care !!

In America they are tested for PRA but not here as it does not seem to be a problem. If you want to know what to aska breeder Email me or ring me I am listed under the Breeders section on this site. There are a few health problems you should be aware of but none of them are tested for!! Jan
