We just started our 1st class last night and Moose was great- mind you for some reason she was not listening very well when it was almost time
to leave- she had to do a sit stay which she did until I called her and she just didn't want to come- the bratt!

All I used was her ball and she was fab with the other dogs with her ball in her mouth of course lol Then I took the ball out and
we had to meet people and put them in a sit while we introduced- she was AweSome.

Guess at the end of this class we are to do a lil FreeStyle and have to admit that scares me, have never done anything like that. This
class looks into everything from Flyball, Free style, tracking ect- I'm more interested in the flyball and tracking.

At the end of the course I believe we should have our good neighbor- think that is what she said.

Any Idea's on freestyle dancing with your dog?

Thank you :-)

The outline of the class: This class continues to emphasize the use of skills learned in Beginner Level One in every day situations. This will include proofing your dog to work with several different distractions.
In this class you'll also get a taste of some of the many dogsports that are available in Regina. This may include Canine Good Citizen Test exercises, rally obedience, agility, tricks and more. We often have students repeating this class as it's a lot of fun and each class is a little different from the one before.

If it's a Sit Stay then your dog was correct not to come to you. 'Stay' means don't move from that spot until I return to release. If you are going to call the dog, the command is 'Wait'.

Sorry ment to say Wait ooops! That is what I used the 1st was stay and I did return the second one was
a wait. I always use wait for example when I make her sit before heading out the door on our walk
and we always go out 1st.

I never use the command "wait". As far as I'm concerned "stay" covers everything. My dogs know it to mean stay put until I command them to do something else, whether that is recalling them to me or me returning to them and subsequently releasing them.

I think I'd practice the wait-recall combination in lots of locations, she may be confused if you only use it in a few contexts at the moment (ie, around doors, so that when you do it NOT near a door.. whoa.. thats new!).

I also prefer to use 'Wait... I am going to tell you to do something else in a minute' and 'Stay - do not move no matter WHAT' due to the number of times I have seen people use 'stay' where I use wait and a dog has misinterpreted a hand gesture or sound NOT directed at them to mean 'ok move' or 'come to me'.

In one instance it was a very well trained collie and he broke the stay, crossed a road and was hit by a car, fortunately not killed but he lost a leg.

When I say 'Stay' to my dogs, they know it means sit/lie down like a statue, don't move, I'll return to release you at the end of the exercise.
When I say 'Wait' it means be ready to move if I ask you to, eg during a recall, to fetch a retrieve article etc

We all do things differently and no one way is right or wrong. :)
