I took our last litter to the vets for rear dew claw removal and check ups along with their dam the day after they were born, but I had them in the little green basket you get with the Petnap whelping kit! I put in the heat pad but it was a bit higgedy piggledy, even with a muslin cloth on top. I have a fabric crate I may use this time, with the inside cushioned out with towels and vet bed as well as the heat pad, but what do people on here use for such an occasion?
Thanks in advance,
Beth

Fortunately not had any need but my plan was that Mum would go in a plastic carrier on the front seat anchored with bungee ropes and the pups in one of the plastic drawers out of the chest I keep my dog gear in,vet bed and microwave heat pad in the bottom and "rice mummy's" around the edge to stop them rolling about too much, blanket thrown loosely over the top and placed in the passenger foot area at the front of the car.

Took my litter of five medium breed to the vet in a cardboard box with tall sides,, if you know what I mean. Had a hot water bottle under some vet bed and just covered them loosely with a very light soft blanket. I just felt they were safe from any nasty airbourne bugs deep down in the box. Took granddaughter with me to hold the box on the journey. They were lovely and warm both journeys.

Never take mine the vet allways comes to me to do dew claws and post birth checks. The surgery is not a place I want my new born babies if I can help it.

nice vetbed in back seat with padding so no one could fall and mum tucked in with them. cosy!
I used plastic boxes, like the kind you put kids toys in. I bought the one with a lid and drilled lots of holes in it as my last litter was in winter.
I had vet bed in the bottom with microwave heat pad and a few light fleece blankets.
I had two of these boxes and found them really useful the first few weeks for putting the pups in when I was cleaning out the whelping box.
Yes plastic storage boxes you get from Tesco/Home Bargains etc. Nice and cheap and easy to clean. Heatpad between vet bed and off you go :) And when you've finished with it you can stick it in the loft for your Xmas decorations :)
I thught that's why the small fabric crate would be a good idea, less risk of virus getting to them. Will be getting a storage box too though as we have some spare any way, thanks!

WOW! When I think of all the fancy paraphernalia that I get together!!!! What a really super idea that is. Note to breeders - add to Christmas pressie list. :-) :-)
I googled this after seeing that and it looks a bit small? I mean do the bubs no suffocate or any thing in there? xx

My pups only weigh a couple of ounces, so would be fine.

My 2 litters have been small, 2 puppies and 1 puppy, and they're a toy breed. I found they fit easily in a cardboard archive box from work, with the microwavable heat pad and some towels to snuggle into.

Small plastic storage box with lid - I just don't seal the lid down, I put it on loosely. Same one I used for the 'ready box', and had to use to take for the emergency C-section. We actually had someone come here for dew claws, but post middle of the night c-section we had to take the babies and mum to the vets the next day to ensure they were doing well.

its not too small for my pups which are a largish toy, it easily transports 5 pups and would fit more in.
I also use in in winter to keep my tootsies warm, so its multi use lol
Oohh I see, mine are a small breed and I have found an electric footwarmer in the garage so might have a look and see if I could pop them in there!
