hallo! My young bitch has finally come into season(14 months!) although I didnt bother with my last pups season, and was fine with a bit of caution,I was wondering-can you still buy those masking sprays,a lemon smell,if I remember, its about 30 years since I last used them?Havent heard a mention of them, maybe they decided they dont work?Bob martins Antimate was one, used to make me laugh because at the time my favourite perfume was Revlons "intimate"!

They really don't work at all -if you consider that dogs can sniff out a few cancer cells or can indicate where drugs HAVE been stored in the past etc etc, it would be a strange dog indeed that could not sniff out a bitch in season no matter what she had been sprayed with.

I tried the sprays and some tablets, they didn't work, also tried Vicks Vapour Rub, that didn't work either, so I keep the girls under supervision when outside, don't go for walks and carry them to the car if we need to leave home[visiting stud etc] to avoid blood dripping on the ground and getting intact males camping out, must be doing something right as we didn't get a visit from our local Romeo who visited 2 houses in the close till he must have passed away, not seen him for over 12 months.

To mask the smell from my males I use vanilla extract [not essence] on their noses, chests and bedding and around her tail end, they know she is in season but are not as agitated and off their food etc., I am pretty sick of the smell by the time the season is over.

thankyou, both of you,i suspected they probably wouldnt work.Luckily there doesnt seem to be as many wandering dogs as there used to be.When I first moved into this area about 40 years ago,it was quite common to see dogs taking themselves for a walk,or lying outside their house,Id got male dogs back then,so I didnt really have a problem, but I remember one chap telling me his little dog would disappear for days, and he seemed to know when all the local bitches were due in,and would come back eventually, hungry.
