Does anyone know why the instructions for use of the herpes vaccine are so specific about the timing?
Why does it have to be given 7-10 days after mating and again a week before birth? If it's not given within 7-10 days does that mean it can't be used at all?
This vaccine worries me quite a lot as i've never known of a medicine that can only be used at a specific time.

This vaccine will only produce antiboldies for short period  time hence vaccination schedule being first injection when bitch comes into season up to 10 days after mating and second approx 1 - 2 weeks prior to delivery date.

How does Eurican Herpes 205 work?
Eurican Herpes 205 contains small amounts of canine herpes virus antigens. When injected, this small exposure helps the dog's immune system to synthesize antibodies against the canine herpes virus and to neutralize it. Once vaccinated, bitches will, through colostrum, give those antibodies to puppies. When exposed to canine herpes virus later in life, the puppies will either not become infected or have a much less serious infection. Eurican Herpes 205 is intended to protect the puppies from this infection during the first few days of life.
