Hi well have same great news the pups we  had in June had no hernias, I have being trying to breed hernia's out of my line hopefully i have.
Was so pleased at having a litter with no hernias in.Hopefully it will continue. At last i have bred a pup that i maybe able to show hope so.

Great, but expect them to turn up in future generations from time to time.  Especially if they are prevalent in the breed.

You will lessen the likelihood if you use a stud who also does not have one and was from a litter without any, so you need to research and be able to trust the source of info.

But as with anythign don't forget the whole dog in all this, I am sure there are greater issues and health conditons to be considered in any breed than hernia's, especially small ones, but of course ideally one would like to avoid them.

My foundation bitch was from a litter of 5 - not one had a hernia. However, in her first and only litter she produced one bitch with one and one without (we kept both bitches). Both bitches went on to produce some pups with hernias and some without. I think in our breed it is pure luck if you get a litter with no umbilical hernias as they are unfortunately so prevalent. I would love to breed a line of cavs with no hernias, but there are other health issues that are of far greater significance as you know.
