One of my homes on my waiting list is in Holland. The family will be coming to view puppy and such beforehand, and then will be taking him to their son's home (who had a puppy from my last litter) to wait whilst innoculations are finished and such. But how soon after that will he be able to go to Holland with them? It's a great family who have had the much larger variants of my breed in the past so are experienced and the home will be fantastic I'm sure.
Also, is there anything I can do with the puppy to prepare him better for the journey? I already crate train pups before they go to new homes but wanted to now if there's anything I can do especially.
Hope that wasn't too vague!
TIA, Beth x

It depends on what the entry rules to holland are, not all countries demand any vaccinations to be given to a puppy that is under certain age coming from UK.
So info from Hollands officials is what is needed to see what the requirements are.
Straight away I think. I've done Holland. I microchipped, vaccinated and that was it. I think there was some form that the vet filled out, saying that the pup was in good health, showing no symptoms of contageous disease and was therefore fit to travel. A veterinary health cerfificate or something...its been a few years since I did it.
she went via ferry in a crate in the back of a car and was fine. As long as you get someone on the car decks who is friendly, they may be allowed down there to check on the pup. If its by plane, thats only about 45 minutes so the pup will be over before you know it.

Ah but since January we have had the new harmonisation of travel rules that require Rabies vaccination and 3 week wait before entry to EEC countries, so it could be that pup can't go until 3 months plus 3 weeks.
Best to check if they still allow pups under 12 weeks without any vaccinations, and also bear in mind if they are travelling through France, France do not allow it.

Information from the Netherlands Embassy.Puppies and kittens
The first vaccination is valid 21 days after the vaccination protocol has been finished. However, a puppy less than 3 months old is too young to vaccinate against rabies, so your puppy (only if less than 3 months) may enter the Netherlands without a rabies vaccination. The owner should be prepared to provide a written statement in which he/she, as the owner of the dog, certifies that the animal resided at the same place as its place of birth and had no contact with animals which might have been infected with rabies. This statement may have to be produced at the border.
Please note that also for animals younger than 3 month an EU pet passport supplied by an authorised veterinarian is required. If the puppy has left your (as the breeder) premises then a standard EU pet passport is required.

Ah so still OK to take a pup under 3 months to Holland before Rabies or any other vacciantions.

the owner of the dog, certifies that the animal resided at the same place as its place of birth and ... Only if it's travelling directly from the breeder's premises.

Well that would be the case as it's a pup going from the breeder, and the breeder certifies it has not been around any dog that may have been in contact with Rabies, so that applies to even a well socialised UK pup.

No, the pup's going to the new owner's son's home first, before going to Holland. ("

Ah then it will be 3 months and 3 weeks, but if he goes straight to them he can go before 3 months,. so it would be better they bypass their son.

Pup can enter holland with just having the passport issued, vacs can be done when over there, so long as they do not go via France ( the most awkward eu country so should be avoided travelling wise as they won't allow an unvaccinated pup in their country under any circumstances).
I just got my pup that went abroad used to car travel and crates, much the same as the others, he coped fine with the journey.
I have sent puppies to Malta ( that was a nightmare and landed up in quarantine despite my investigations ) and Southern Ireland. One by plane, one by ferry and puppy coped fine with the journey.
Thanks everyone, sorry for the late reply, have been on holiday. That's great then, will let them know, think I can go along with having a puppy a bit longer especially if it means more puppy breath. ;)
