My little dog has always had a minor "problem" with runny eyes, not untypical of his breed, but this year it seems to have been a bit worse than normal.  However a couple of weeks ago he had to have a course of antibiotics for something else and since then his eyes have dried up considerably.  Is this a usual affect of antibiotics?  I´d hate to think he´d had an eye problem which I hadn´t recognised and the vet certainly didn´t notice anything wrong with his eyes when he prescribed the antibiotics.

Usually eye infections are treated with topical[drops/ointment]medication, it may just be coincidental that the eyes were better when taking oral A/B's, only time will tell.

If the runny eyes are due to an allergy then maybe this year has been particularly bad for that allergy.

Breed related runny eyes are not going to be influenced by A/B's of any type.

Yes, I think it's entirely possible for this to happen. I've noticed it myself, more than once, with one of ours whose eyes were prone to running. They dried up temporarily while he was on Synulox for something else. Unfortunately the effect didn't last once the antibiotics were finished.
