Has anybody had first hand experience of this and what was the outcome ?

Thanks
Lucy

Can you explain more? Was the pup house trained and now isn't? Or has something happened physically to cause incontinence?
- By LJS Date 09.08.12 11:12 UTC
No the condition rather than toilet training issue :-)

yes, I had a (bitch) pup with incontinence and a very early infection, spent £1k and found that both kidneys and tubes ended in the wrong place, surgery was an option but wouldn't resolve the issue and given the ongoing incontinence and infection I made the extremely difficult decision to have the most beautiful and lovely natured pup pts at 4 months.... if just one kidney had been affected I'd have had it removed and she could have lived a 'normal' life.... as it was the vets agreed it was the kindest thing for her.... she was already upset with her mother constantly cleaning her and the infection was only just kept in check externally, internally it was probably a different matter.  With what I've learned if I ever get another I would wait until 4 months of age before having the exploratory stuff done as they really can't tell what's what and where it's going until then.

Horrible decision to make :-(

There is a pup in rescue at the moment and just wanted to get some first hand experiences  in case there is something that hasn't been looked at that could possibly help the pup .

Yes, she was beautiful and sat in the surgery waiting to have her pts was heartbreaking... all her veins had collapsed so it was very traumatic and apparently some folk who know nothing think I'm cruel and heartless to have a youngster pts, they clearly weren't there when I held her in my arms and cried buckets.....

it depends... find out if it's both kidneys or just one and if there's infection already.  Like with my pup if both kidneys are affected and there's infection then life will be limited, if you can keep incontinence pads on her and infection under control you will be fine for a while.. with me and lots of dogs around I couldn't hope to keep pants on her and she already had an infection only just responding but not being resolved.

Penny it would be for your own selfish reasons to keep her with us. Hard and heartbraking it was the best thing for her.

I have just learnt that the puppy in rescue , little Peppa puppy has died.

She had been doing very well but she started to show signs of illness a couple of days ago and not sure what has happened but she has died.

The lady look after her had grown so close to her and must be heart broken.

Run free little Peppa

>all her veins had collapsed so it was very traumatic and apparently some folk who know nothing think I'm cruel and heartless to have a youngster pts,

Well I for one don't think that.  I haven't bred a Chi litter since the summer of 2010, and feel pretty sure I will never feel that I can again.  I had to have a pup that I kept put to sleep and it was so painful that I am still distraught when I think about it.  I certainly can't discuss it with anyone.  It was a heartbreaking decision to make.

So I don't think you're heartless.  It takes a special kind of strength to do the right thing.

sorry to hear the pup has died, it is heartbreaking and I still cry when I think of my little Ellie

Sounds like the condition this puppy had was ectopic ureter.
