Is there anything that will get rid of this stuff?  It's not so much an issue for me at present but it is getting worse as it tends to, but i know a few people who are going mad with the poxy thing!

The worst of mine is growing through the slabs on my patio and on the big slab hardstanding next to it, which is going to be where my chicken run sits when I get it set up - sure horsetail is safe for chooks but I'd still rather stop it if I can :-)

Absolutely one of the worst weeds to get ( but if it's any consolation, it is prehistoric ). It's so hard to get rid off because it has a tough waxy coating all over it which prevents weedkiller working. You need to bash it about a bit to put breaks in the waxy surface and then use weedkiller, but it will still take time, and multiple application of weedkiller.

As Celli said, stand on it before you use anything on it to 'bruise' it so the weed killer gets in to the tough exterior sheathe Buy Glysophate (round up) as thats the only thing that will kill the roots properly. As soon as you see it sprouting get weedkiller on it. Failing that, find a LICENCED sprayer in your area, where we can use stronger stuff than you can buy :) :)
Oh and it will take YEARS to eradicate, the same as ground elder :)

You could try burning it off, I think that's what was recommended on Gardeners Question Time.

I've heard that it's better to cut down, then with a syringe inject the weed killer down the stem, but you'll need to keep doing it.

Pour boiling water on them. Our local authority uses a handy little drivable steam cleaner to get rid of graffiti but it also does exemplary service in keeping down pavement weeds :-)
