I have a toy breed who is 58 days today, This morning she had puppy number 1, it was stillborn & very deformed at its rear end although it's head front paws were all fully formed, nothing happened after an hour or so so soon as the vet opened I called them and was told to leave her 3 hours but nothing happened so i took her in for a check,he couldn't feel anything but I asked him To scan her anyway, I was delighted to see a heartbeat & what looked like a healthy puppy, he sent us home and said let nature take its cause, this was around 11.45 at 2.30pm she started digging her bed & licking her back end, I knew this was it and at 3pm a little boy was born fully formed but extremely small, He weighed 0.9oz wasn't moving but had a faint heartbeat, I kept him warm and mum did her thing but after 30 minutes he stopped breathing, I worked on him for about an hour and he again started breathing and was for a further hour and half but still wasting moving at all, he passed away and I am totally gutted :'(.. Neither puppy had any fur whatsoever & the second one looked like its skin had split on his head, I'm just hoping to get some answers as to why this happened or if anyone else has experienced anything like it, My sister has the same breed and hers have always had fur and although tiny one was 2oz it survived, I'm heartbroken and searched the Internet for answers as to why but cant find anything, Thank you for reading and i will be greatful for any advice...

I have a toy breed that whelp at 56 days as the norm. Any pup at this stage has survived. I have only ever seen pups without fur that were very premature. Certainly, at 58 days, pups should be fully furred. I am pretty experienced in breeding, and I honestly don't think your litter sounds like a 58 day whelping.
Do you mean that the pup was 0.9oz as you say in your post, or was it 9ozs?
At 0.9oz no puppy could possibly survive.

Thanks for your reply it was 58 days from first mating 56 from second, yes he weighed only 0.9 oz

Sorry to hear you lost all the pups, it does sound like for some reason the pups have stopped maturing and growing, placental function failing is probably the cause.
If a live pup is in the same uterine horn as dead/decomposing ones it can be affected.
A puppy weighing less than an ounce isn't likely to survive, it won't have the energy/stamina to fight off any infections or feed off Mum, finding a tube small enough to tube feed would also be a problem.
Mother Nature does these things and majority of times we don't know why.
She's now taken to laying on my slippers as though she thinks there her babies, what is the best thing to do remove them or leave her too it
So very sorry, what a horrible thing to happen.
Hair develops between 4-6 weeks so something has gone wrong during this period, what? It's impossible to say, but her body knew something was wrong hence why the pups were whelped sooner, nature generally takes care of these things.
If she is becoming maternal to objects best thing is to distract her, take them away and get her out and exercised to take her mind and body off being a mum and back to normal.
Once again so sorry, it's a experience none would wish to go through, your girl will bounce back, just console yourself with the fact that the pups were not properly formed in one way or another and nature took care of it there was nothing you could do. {{hug}}
Thanks for your kind words & explanations as to why this may have happened, shes still very sad and this afternoon shes leaking lots of green discharge and is still digging is this normal after giving birth is been around 28 hours now since she had the last one

Another one here worried about the green discharge. Please tell us that you have been to the vet with your girl.
Hi yes sorry I couldn't get online last night, I've had her checked out the discharge has stopped and there is no retained placenta or further puppies, she's had a rough ride and it's such a shame she doesn't have any babies at the end of it.

Thanks for the update. The most important thing is that your bitch is ok.
